Live performance by Anna von Hausswolff and her band

To introduce us to her new album, Anna von Hausswolff on her website describes as a child being enchanted by family stories of a gorgeous area from her native Sweden with a complicated past. She'd heard Sweden’s traditional folk music began in this naturally beautiful place, but a momentous uprising against the country’s king left its landscapes bathed in blood. Anna calls the place "Miraculous" and has based her new album on these storied lands. von Hausswolff’s voice echoes this beauteous but ghastly past, as she swoops from whispered incantations to ghastly shrieks. Anna von Hausswolff brings her band to WFMU to play some of these epic tunes.

almost put on a Renaissance record the other day. I think I went with Suzanne Vega instead. Couldn't figure out what I was feeling.

I used to go to Colorado a couple times a year to visit friends. We never crossed Independence Pass, though. www.americansouthwest.net...

This band is really excellent. Her site says she's been making records since 2010, but I wasn't turned on to her; now she's on my radar, thanks Irene!

P-90:

I happen to know that if Anna introduces herself as a visiting artist, the Cathedral of St. John will be more than likely be happy to let her take a spin on their organ.

KP:

Good evening, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Irene Trudel:

Thank you P-90. I did mention it to Anna, and listener Lou (who brought food for them tonight) has a sister who works with the cathedral and might have a good way of introducing her.

KP:

Lovely spacious sounds here, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks KP! Sorry I've not been writing much tonight. Lotta moving parts with the band, all of whom were delightful to work with! I felt I needed to make the musical pace slow down a tiny bit.
