Good morning Matt and landfill people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08am
Matt ww:

Good Morning everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08am
pacific standard simon:

Total garbage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09am
coelacanth:

hello Matt and d'divers.
Great song here. Great man.
...one of the first albums i ever bought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09am
pacific standard simon:

Missing the picture...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10am
pacific standard simon:

Ah, there we are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13am
pacific standard simon:

The first Beatles solo album I bought NEW was McCartney. The second was Plastic Ono Band. There never was a third.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16am
pacific standard simon:

Can, however, makes me twitch and shout. In a good way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16am
coelacanth:

i bought a few used albums first. "the beatles' second album" was 25¢ at a garage sale. i was disappointed because it's softer than "meet the beatles".
Avatar 3:18am
Alejandroool:

yes, always dig the Can
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am
coelacanth:

when i was 8 or 9 i joined a record club and got three dog night (it ain't easy);rare earth (get ready); and led zeppelin II (by my brother's recommendation!) for $5.00.
...then when the first catalogue came it had All Things Must Pass for $5.00 (-or maybe 6)-so,my 4th new album.
there went my leaf-raking money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am
pacific standard simon:

That's the thing -- I lived in suburban places where there were no used record stores. Hell, there weren't even any NEW record stores! You browsed the cut-out albums at the Thriftymart. The first record I bought new was Yellow Submarine at a Sears store in Salina, Kansas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26am
pacific standard simon:

@ coelacanth - That coincides with my memories of the ads for the record clubs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27am
coelacanth:

yeah our town didn't have a record store until i was in around 8th grade, and it was only new vinyl;but even so i didn't have much money to spend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29am
Matt ww:

I actually got that All Things Must Pass record for free from my middle school band director
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30am
coelacanth:

there was "two guys" record department and "harmony house" on the highway....that might as well been on the moon when i was 11 years old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am
coelacanth:

that's a fine gift Matt! i guess you were doing something right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am
pacific standard simon:

All I have to say is, thank heaven for even the worst of radio! Without that, there would have been nothing.
Avatar 3:35am
Alejandroool:

that snare drum precision, and now noise will be what puts me out tonight, will hafta catch up on podcast, night all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am
coelacanth:

simon- i remember all the ads too and they all looked like such scams. "get this now and you only have to buy 6 more at obscenely high prices "
...but i always checked them out, just to dream- and i came upon one that said "3 albums/$5.00 nothing more required" and everyone warned me i was being suckered...but it turned out to be legit; and i got lots of records from them over the next few years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am
pacific standard simon:

I have a DVD of Playboy After Dark, with Deep Purple as the musical guest. Gotta watch that again soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41am
coelacanth:

glad for this- 'never heard it.
... and these transitions have been practically seamless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43am
pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth - I never joined any of those clubs until the mid-90s, when, through judicious shopping, I got a lot of great deals on boxed sets. Ornette Coleman, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Steely Dan, Miles Davis, Velvet Underground. Go figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am
pacific standard simon:

RIP, Robert Quine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47am
coelacanth:

that sounds worthwhile though...
is that "club" still around?

...the only record club i've joined (& un-joined) as an adult was "the musical heritage society" -mostly classical, though i did get one of my favorite traditional japanese music records from them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50am
pacific standard simon:

Nope, they're all gone now.

Hey, double (triple?)-time Dylan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am
pacific standard simon:

My favorite record deal was the Warner-Reprise Loss Leaders series -- a dollar a disc. And they're all available on-line now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56am
pacific standard simon:

Wait, what? Who's singing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58am
coelacanth:

argh. i looked those inner sleeves over so many times. if i saw any clue that my musical tastes would become so diverse i would've got them all, without blinking.
and they'd still be in decent shape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02am
pacific standard simon:

Well, you woulda worn some of those grooves out. I ruined the Fugs' parts of those records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04am
pacific standard simon:

Hopped up on caffeine, or hopped up on "Visions Of Johanna"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am
pacific standard simon:

I was in middle school when All Things Must Pass was released. No teacher was going to give me that in those days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am
coelacanth:

you're right simon. i guess by "decent shape" i mean not utterly destroyed- like most records owned by children.
(after creating at least a dozen practically un-listenable records i started taking better care of them, by the time i was 12, than most people ever did as adults.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10am
pacific standard simon:

Whole lotta garbage, NYAOW!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am

Why do I think I'm hearing Billy Cobham doing King Crimson?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22am

It's mostly raccoons listening now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24am
pacific standard simon:

They only come out at night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32am
Matt ww:

I'm actually just a raccoon

DL in LA:

I think it's that Frow Show guy who always says the show number. It's in the hundreds. I can't remember exactly, but it always seems like a pretty big number. Something to aim for! Of course, then there's people like Irwin and Fabio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11am
