Fifth. Still getting used to the new WFMU homepage. It doesn't seem like that much of an improvement, honestly.

I have no idea why there was a need for a new homepage. The old one was perfectly fine!

Anyone know if Scott's cover of Stamey's song 'Cara Lee' is on a record? (I've got a low-ish bitrate mp3 downloaded from the 125records website in 2008).

i assume that at least some of rationale behind the webpage change is to make it responsive/mobile friendly

Mailman Tom:

That too bad for those of us who have a desktop computer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
chris_in_space:

@adrian in mpls I don't see how the new homepage is any more mobile friendly than the old one, especially when there's a dedicated mobile app.
Avatar 9:26pm
adrian in mpls:

@chris_in_space--responsive websites are able to re-size correctly based on the device -- so they can adjust/collapse/expand information based on screen size. the old wfmu site wouldn't do that.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
chris_in_space:

@adrian in mpls I get that, but thanks. The new homepage doesn't look so great on my iPhone. Not any better than the old one anyway, and the design is not good. Outlined sub headings with a white fill on a white background? Doesn't work for me.
Avatar 9:30pm
adrian in mpls:

that said, i don't necessarily love the mobile sort of browsing experience. I, too, like the old webpage. I'm just hip deep in managing a responsive website transition at my job. One major reason many sites have to switch over to this type of responsive site is that Google now penalizes websites that aren't mobile friendly.

Sue Trowbridge:

To be honest, I don't know if Scott would have liked having a book written about him -- he was a pretty self-effacing guy -- but he would have loved the hell out of having an entire show devoted to his music (+ songs by some of his favorite artists). He was justifiably proud of his music, and he was a real perfectionist about everything he released. Incidentally, David Bowie's "The Next Day" was the last new album Scott truly loved -- we discussed it just 2 weeks before he died. He adored the fact that Bowie had just dropped it out of nowhere like that.

The Both played a show in San Francisco shortly before Scott's death. From the book: "One project that Scott indirectly set in motion—Aimee Mann and Ted Leo’s new duo project as the Both—hit San Francisco in March of 2013, and Aimee would come to regret the jitters that kept her from inviting him to the show."
