Mailman Tom:

In the Francis the Talking Mule movies from the 1950s, they applied electric jolts to the animal lips to cause them to twitch in order to make it appear that the animal was speaking. Couldn't get away with that these days!
Avatar 8:30pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

That's horrible, Mailman Tom :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
dale:

the beckeroos is brilliant. kudos p-90.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Becky:

@Mailman Tom: Is that how Mr. Ed worked? You're wrecking my childhood here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
dale:

mr. ed learned to move his lips on cue. he was quite a brilliant horse. i think they just gave gum to the apes in lance link, secret chimp.
  8:35pm
JakeGould:

I believe they used fishing line thread as well for Mr. Ed?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
dale:

mr. ed started with his trainer pulling thread to move his mouth. but how did arnold the pig write his name - THAT is the big question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
dale:

DON RICH - yay!
Avatar 8:37pm
Mailman Tom:

The info is from Movie Club magazine, a short lived professional magazine from the 1990s.

Old Dave:

dale, most horses are brilliant. I never got why they (and most dogs, too) are so impatient to please us less than brilliant humans! It almost never ends well for them...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
