Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

  6:04am P-90:

"Drive Time of the Soul"! Hi Julie and Dawn Patrollers
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:05am Julie:

But can you listen to web radio in the car? I never can get it to stream on my phone
Avatar 6:07am C.S.:

It's so dark and foggy on the east coast. Great for tuning in because I still can convince myself it's really late instead of early morning. Hi everyone.
Avatar 6:20am C.S.:

Ah. Nouvelle Vague doing what they do best.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:22am Julie:

I always think of them as a hip but chill french cafe band
Avatar 6:23am C.S.:

Do they only do covers?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:24am Julie:

yeah I think so. I only have that one album.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:30am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Julie and soul brothers / sisters. To listen to the stream while driving, I turn off wifi and get the signal from the cell phone data plan.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:37am Julie:

yeah my data just isn't consistent enough, it's frustrating
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41am foofs:

Whoa, is this '99 Red Balloons' Nena?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:41am Julie:

yep the very same
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42am foofs:

Well, that's my day made!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43am Julie:

there's a whole double CD of covers, half german, half english
  6:43am P-90:

Very nice "She's a Rainbow" cover from Frau Nena
  6:45am Ike:

Interesting show to wake up to. 2 a.m. kinds of sounds at 6 a.m. I'm so out of it. Need tea.
Avatar 6:50am C.S.:

I finished the archive for Tuesday's fil-in. Such a great calm mood that was created. Great to hear so much music that I just wasn't too familiar with.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:54am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good Mourning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01am maestroso:

Good morning Julie! Rare that I can comment on your show. Very cool playlist.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:04am Julie:

good mourning! Thanks CS we had a blast, we've already decided we're gonna do another one at some point.
Avatar 7:04am C.S.:

That's great.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:09am Julie:

Probably the only time I can play this song
Avatar 7:10am C.S.:

You're channeling Meghan's F-bomb shows?
  7:10am Ike:

Ha ha cool
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:12am Julie:

nah just taking advantage of the time to play a new Valerie song
  7:13am P-90:

Toyah! Toyah! Toyah!
Avatar 7:14am C.S.:

@Julie Dumb question. Why are some shows internet only? Is it to make room for more DJs?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:16am Julie:

pretty much. We have a show that's on FM from 6-9 mon-fri, and I guess Ken wanted to squeeze some free form in. Then..came other streams.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:22am Julie:

get ready for a show tune
  7:24am Ike:

Historical accident of sorts. Nobody in 1980 at Upsala College wanted to do 6-9 and prob. couldn't imagine any freeform DJ ever would. And there was little or no Jewish music on the radio. A strange radio marriage occurred. It doesn't flow too well w/freeform though, so they have their own stream now.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:30am ausmanx:

there is NO DOUBT this is the only place in the world where Phantom would segue into Fairport...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:34am Julie:

it's called..insanity
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:35am ausmanx:

how GOOD is Sandy Denny...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:36am Julie:

I like this rockier side of her
Avatar 7:38am C.S.:

Street lights are out. Crows are about. Daylight is upon us.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:39am Julie:

yes I see the light peeking in through the shades
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:41am ausmanx:

i have spent the last seven hours working on subtitles for a Korean game show called Running Man (one of the most popular shows IN THE WORLD) and my brain is turning to jelly... help.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:58am ausmanx:

chris, you might enjoy Frenzal Rhomb's one-minute song about Russell's band... www.youtube.com... i believe they are still going when Russ is in town (and he still comes to Sydney quite a bit...)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:59am Julie:

I don't think I'm capable of playing a 12-string..but I do love the sound
Avatar 8:01am Chris Echo:

hahahahahahaa @ausmanx that is a great track and Frenzal Rhomb woah haven't heard them in an age and a half nice call bro
Avatar 8:02am Chris Echo:

Morning Julie Thanks for the tunes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 8:03am Julie:

Good morning Chris!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 8:03am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

No one can actually tune a 12-string - it's just a hoax.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 8:05am ausmanx:

the Rhomb are back, actually Chris, and playing the great old beer halls... www.bandsintown.com... and though the US Shameless is not bad, you certainly can't beat the Paul Abbott Manchester original, going places US TV just can't go...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 8:11am Julie:

wow this has kind of a Wall Roger Waters thing going on
  8:12am Listener142985:

Julie: Thanks for that Soko song, what a great cover. So much better than the original that it might make you appreciate the original. Great pick, great show.

"I have promises to keep,. And miles to go before I sleep..." has never been more appropriate to describe the rest of my day but I'm so glad to have found this three 3 hour respite of great music. Thanks again Julie for yet another wonderful fill-in broadcast.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 8:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

Yeah, the three hours went quickly. Thanks for filling in, Julie. Have happy holidays, in case we don't meet again until the new year.
