Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm fleep:

If it's Circle Time, did someone bring pi?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Rubber Soul' & The Wh♂'s 1st album w/ 'My Generation' came out same day - 3rd Dec. '65 - 50 years ago - earlier same month as this Cherry...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm coelacanth:

i've got 3.14159265359 of one. we'll have to divide it up.
Avatar 9:24pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

0.1 carrot cake beats 0.0 carrot cake.
that Don/Gato vibe is consistently mad.
Avatar 9:25pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

the "togetherness" LP credited to Cherry/Barbieri is a stunnah as well.
  9:29pm Marc15:

Keep dreaming
Avatar 9:30pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

No damned white xmas here. t-shirt weather in DC today. summer conditions. screw that. Bring the chill……. please….
  9:36pm Marc15:

The Brain Police is the Republican Party of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Uncle Michael:

Jerry Vale anthem:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm coelacanth:

i never noticed before that Bowie (heavily) borrowed from this for "tvc15"...but then i've never heard this version of cow cow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm coelacanth:

i've heard that...and Berry ultimately never gave him his due- by a long shot; which adds to the potentiality of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Uncle Michael:

I saw Johnnie sit in with the Grateful Dead once. That was fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

In 'Hail Hail R'n'R' movie ? - Keef suggests tunes are in 'piano keys' (guitarist tend towards E & stuff)?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm melinda:

I didn't know John Fahey did xmas songs, nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm coelacanth:

UM that sounds like it'd rev the dead up a gear!
  10:11pm Mark R:

Melinda it's called "The New Possibility." He did two volumes and they've now combined them both into one album which I think is still available. One of my favorite Christmas albums!
  10:15pm Cooh John:

Coming in to this jazz. Swing it.
  10:17pm Listener142985:

Wash Post did nice piece on how River became a Christmas favorite despite being 'thoroughly depressing.' Ran last week, easily found online, bunch of links to covers by people like Sarah McLachlan. Worth a look for lovers of the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Consider 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas' : there's thoroughly depressing all over Xmas Music...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I like in 'Martian Chronicles' - Dickens' spirit resented getting sent to where the other Ghost & Macabre writers' spirits ended up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm melinda:

@Listener: River is a great xmas song, I'm not surprised it's a favorite. Lots of people are kinda depressed or at least touched by melancholy around this time, so it offers an alternative to forced cheer.
Avatar 10:24pm steve portland:

this rules
  10:26pm Jonathan Herweg:

You've been put in bookoo fill in time guy.
  10:26pm DL in LA:

Wow, great musicians playing with Chick Corea. And I wonder who is on drums?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm coelacanth:

Jack DeJonnette
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm coelacanth:

  10:29pm Mark R:

Come to think of it, I think Woody Shaw sat this track out! But Hubert Laws, flute; Bennie Maupin, sax; Dave Holland, bass (and composer!); and yes, Jack DeJohnette AND Horace Arnold on drums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm coelacanth:

yeh this is crazy hot, and for Chick Corea especially.
  10:30pm Jonathan Herweg:

Yes the drummer is sick... Milford graves??
  10:30pm Mark R:

Doing it whenever I get the chance, Jonathan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm coelacanth:

oops! no offense to Mr.Andy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wow - so this was earlier in the year than Woodstock & Wayne Shorter's 'Super Nova' which followed that closely : en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...people had stuff to let out in '69...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm coelacanth:

i'm the ghost of big-time producer future.
...you're going places.
Avatar 10:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Speaking of Sinatra: Very soon it will be time to cue up the one xmas tradition we keep around here -- midnight screening of MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM. … did it sarcastically about 20 years ago and it stuck. Now it has completely bonded with the holiday. Every xmas eve since 1995..
Avatar 10:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

…'cuz nothing says Xmas like morphine addiction, cold turkey, and Arnold Stang...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm coelacanth:

Rev., i know that's funny, even though i've never seen it.... but i have the soundtrack album. it's pretty stellar!
  10:54pm DL in LA:

Mehldau is like a vortex.
Avatar 10:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

The soundtrack kills. Elmer Bernstein is king of the gods, there.
Avatar 10:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

After all those xmas eves with the film, finally read the book (by Nelson Algren) a few years ago. It's unbelievably fantastic. And quite different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm coelacanth:

i wouldn't have guessed,Rev.. i'll put that on my list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm The Count of Al Dente:

How's about Miles Davis' Blue Xmas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Whew! I was afraid Christmas would pass this year without my hearing "Father Christmas" from The Kinks. You saved Christmas for me, Mark R!
  11:24pm Mark R:

Thank Alex the Mad Greek for suggesting that one, Ken!
  11:45pm Cooh John:

Love hearing Stan and Daws
