Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Andrew Waterloo:

Wow, this is one of those covers that makes you question which version is the cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Andrew Waterloo:

ah, originally by Joe Jackson
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Parq:

Andrew, that Jackson cover was such a reworking that it took me most of the first verse to recognize it from the original. For a couple of bars there, all I could do was "Something from 1979. Elvis? XTC?, No, wait ... "
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Andrew Waterloo:

I recognized it as the Anthrax song.
Avatar 9:55am Cecile:

IME, a cover done in such a fashion indicates the person either hates the song, or is completely clueless. YMMV
Avatar 9:57am Cecile:

Sorry to be grumpy. I had a full-fledged panic attack on the way to work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Ken From Hyde Park:

If you have two computers streaming, you can have Natalie Cole (RIP) singing with herself as a duet.
  9:58am billy:

Joe -- ethel's tune is pretty good, but if you really want to cry, try I AM BLUE by Grover from Sesame Street. It'll rip your heart.
  9:59am KP:

Happy New Year, Joe!

Hi all, enjoying the New Year Opener (better than the Jets New Year Opener :( )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am annie:

hey cecile... i hope you carry rescue remedy with you..it's a life-saver!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Parq:

The version of Am I Blue that always sticks in my mind is the rendering by Hoagy Carmichael and Lauren Bacall in "To Have and Have Not". Famously, someone dubbed Lauren's vocals. Unlikely legend has it, it was Andy Williams.
Avatar 10:02am Cecile:

Her first single is still her best. Pretty much perfection.
Here's Natalie completely thrilled by a great lip-synch to "This Will Be":
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Parq:

Lilies of the Nile on Southern Comfort was a favourite track many moons ago.
Avatar 10:38am Kurt Gottschalk:

Rhoda put out an album of new recordings of Bodysnatchers songs a few months ago. I keep meaning to track a copy down.
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

@Kurt: Wow, really? The Bodysnatchers don't get their due, in my opinion.
Avatar 10:41am Kurt Gottschalk:

i agree but a bit moreso over there. their career was pretty short, tho, as rhoda joined up with the special aka after a couple years.

@Joe - no problem! And this track is fairly easy to find cheap on one of those Columbia loss leader records, I see this in dollar bins all the time --> www.discogs.com...
Avatar 11:16am Joe McG:

I've seen that one, I'll pick it up next time! Thanks for the tip.
