The kind of Magic Hour I wish lasted three. In other words, a Magic Hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
doctorjazz:

So, big decision, should I go hear Uri Caine at Le Poisson Rouge tonight, getting old for weeknight shows, but those performances of his with jazz mixed with classics mixed with the kitchen sink should be fun...
  12:52pm
Dean:

Jazzifying early music, c. Bach and earlier, can be problematic (but see Jacques Loussier), but the program for the Caine show sounds intriguing. "Jenny Lin plays Gesualdo, Scarlatti and Mozart while Caine improvises on top of them, making for unusually entertaining piano duets." I mean, Gesualdo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
doctorjazz:

I agree jazzin' the classics can be kitchy and not very interesting, Caine from 1 performance I've caught and a number of CD's, pulls it off really well. But, there's my beauty sleep to consider...
Avatar 12:56pm
ndbob:

excellent show Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @ljfw!

Tough call, @doctorjazz. I have somewhat mixed feelings about Caine, but live should be a great way to take that in. The show I'm sad about missing this week is the Tomeka Reid Quartet at Roulette on Wednesday night... :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @ndbob!

Pulled more music that we can get to today, I'm afraid. Ah, well.
  12:57pm
Dean:

I love the wacky Goldberg Variations exercise he recorded and some of the Schumann, although I prefer his more traditional trio work. Still, Gesualdo and Scarlatti could make for a wild program. Mozart? You don't f--- with Mozart, unless you're Waldo de los Rios.

βrian:

Can't the time slot strettttch a bit, Jeff?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
doctorjazz:

Great show! How about if we light candles (or shine our cell phones) for an encore?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Jeff Golick:

Aw, thanks, @doc & @βrian, but gotta be movin' on. Maybe more next week...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Jeff Golick:

@Dean: haven't heard those Goldberg Variations...need to remedy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
doctorjazz:

I've liked the things he does, covers classics with a full jazz band, turntablist, really wild...
Avatar 1:06pm
βrian:

Love those Goldberg groans.
  1:06pm
Dean:

I heard him play live at the Skirball Center outdoors in LA. IIRC, he played with Don Byron.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
doctorjazz:

Sounds like a great pearing, Byron is another one who cares not about genre!
