Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Rich in Washington:

Wut Cecile said. Amazing how my town's rock stations (one Active Rock and one classic) only play the same four Zeppelin songs over and over.
We used to have a joke when I was a teen - to find KGON, just keep turning your dial to the left until you hear Stairway to Heaven.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Rich in Washington - Every year on my birthday, I request "Stairway to Heaven" on the local classic rock station, WPDH. To help keep it the most requested song of all time and to increase the chances they'll play my request.
Avatar 1:53pm Diane Kamikaze:

YES! Whoever has the carrot cake MUST share....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm coelacanth:

man i could really use some carrot cake.
Avatar 1:55pm Wild Neil:

Dark Qaurterer sounds like Adam Sandler singing....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm pretty sure the Carrot Cake Lobby made sure it's on the new government dietary guidelines. Carrot cake for all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm coelacanth:

if ronald reagan had ever heard of carrot cake, it'd be considered a vegetable and be on the school lunch program as such. but alas, he hadn't.
Avatar 2:02pm Chris from DC:

@ fish: giant yummy cheese blocks will always be his legacy, in my world.
Avatar 2:09pm Wild Neil:

My sister had one of those five pound blocks of cheese in her fridge back in the 80's...was that a WIC thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm coelacanth:

ha! V, i forgot about that one!
Avatar 2:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 2:12pm Cecile:

I occasionally get one from my in-laws who get commodities for my brother in laws.
I make a lot of queso dip when that happens.
Avatar 2:13pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

weird. iTunes skipped over to the Drummer stream. Do carry on...
  2:14pm Sue P.:

oh, i love that government cheese! my grandma used to get it back in the day. Make thee best grilled cheese, if you like it gooey-style
Avatar 2:15pm V Priceless:

now, there's gotta be a band called Government Cheese...no?
Avatar 2:16pm Cecile:

Yes, there is. It was Tommy Womack's old band. They had a college hit called "camping on acid"
Avatar 2:17pm V Priceless:

: )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Marcel M:

Fuzz is sick.
Avatar 2:19pm Wild Neil:

Fuzz IS sick! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 2:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

FRUMMMMMMMPY! Ah, Inga, I swoon...
Avatar 2:20pm Cecile:

Avatar 2:22pm V Priceless:

haha C - that looks like a riot...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm coelacanth:

our next-door neighbor used to get gov't issue peanut butter. it came in an un-labeled can with some rust around the bottom. the lip was not well-designed so the can-opener wouldn't work on it. once it got opened, it was a very hard block of bland peanut substance with a significant layer of (probably rancid) oil on top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm coelacanth:

nice Cecile!
Avatar 2:28pm Cecile:

This sounds like some Killdozer would be good.
Avatar 2:29pm Cecile:

for commodities, they get good, decent off-brands and whatnot. Their peanut butter is quite nice.
Avatar 2:30pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

That was about as melodic as German Shepherds ever got, no?
Avatar 2:31pm Cecile:

it's still pretty amazing for German Shepherds. Those dogs can do anything!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Devin B.:

@vpriceless, @Cecile: Government Cheese! I remember hearing Fish Stick Day a ton on KGRG back in the 90s.
Avatar 2:33pm Cecile:

hahah, never heard that one. I heard "acid" when I was stuck up in Marquette MI doing sad college radio.
Avatar 2:34pm Wild Neil:

@Diane-Great show overall Diane! Keep up the excellent work!
Avatar 2:35pm Cecile:

You've reached the performance zone! You'll get a 2.653 raise on top of your current FMU salary.
Avatar 2:36pm Cecile:

also, do you have any advance tracks by Abbath?
Avatar 2:37pm Cecile:

this guitar solo is kind of insane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Rich in Washington:

I caught the tail-end of the government cheese thing, when I first moved out on my own in the mid-80s, was going to school. Our landlord gave us a block and told us where to get more. It was the best cheap cheese I had ever had. Right after that, the gov't ceased the free cheese program due to cutbacks, I believe.
Stupid Reagan!
  2:38pm Sue P.:

Stupid Reagan, indeed!
Avatar 2:38pm Cecile:

I dislike the guy more and more every year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Marcel M:

I'm sure Reagan still has nightmares about cutting the government cheese.... ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm coelacanth:

Cecile (@2:29) do you mean government issue? -if so,i don't doubt it. things like that have changed immensely. this pb i refer to was at least 4 decades ago!
  2:40pm Mark R:

I'm a little late to the party, but the "Camping on Acid" video is pretty great, Cecile.
Avatar 2:41pm Cecile:

I'm not sure how it goes, but the government collects commodities for the disabled. You get weird meat in a can, but you can also sometimes get Jif peanut butter or Green Giant lo-salt veggies.
Avatar 2:42pm Cecile:

it is, isn't it Mark R?

And this is happening in Upper Michigan, I don't know how the rest of the country works.
Avatar 2:42pm Cecile:

  2:43pm Mark R:

I think we've had this conversation before, but I grew up and spent most of my life in Michigan (lower tho).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm coelacanth:

Rich, yes- the cut-backs...so my carrot cake theory doesn't fly! he declared ketchup a vegetable primarily to be able to cut money from the school lunch program.
Avatar 2:44pm Cecile:

Michigan drives me nuts sometimes but I miss it.
Avatar 2:45pm Cecile:

actually, I don't own any Darkthrone though I love em. Where should I start? I like stuff from all their eras.
  2:47pm Dean:

Michigan administers the federal programs: http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140-66254_61446---,00.html
Avatar 2:47pm Chris from DC:

That was unexpected.
Avatar 2:48pm V Priceless:

great read on demystifying the whole Reagan thing, for those who have the time or the beer: www.salon.com...
Avatar 2:48pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:
