"Moonraker" would have been a good theme opportunity for Roxy Music, considered how bungled up the studio's attempt was to record it:
"Moonraker was the third of three Bond films for which the theme song was performed by Shirley Bassey (following Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever). Kate Bush and Frank Sinatra were both considered for the vocals, before Johnny Mathis was approached and offered the opportunity. However Mathis, despite having started recording with Barry, was unable to complete the project, leaving producers to offer the song to Bassey just weeks before the premiere date in England. Bassey made the recordings with very short notice and as a result, she never regarded the song 'as her own' as she had never had the chance to perform it in full or promote it first."
KATE!

No Bond theme song by Roxy Music. They would have been a good choice for "Moonraker." Sorry, Shirley Bassey. Your theme song was forgettable.

Pete from Boston (and NJ):

One of my favorite David Bowie stories is that of the song "Slip Away" from a few years ago. It is, touchingly, about The Uncle Floyd Show, which apparently Bowie would watch with John Lennon when they lived in New York. I just love that while I was home watching this local show, those guys were watching at the same time, enjoying this encapsulation of New Jersey culture. No doubt he had a soft spot somewhere for WFMU.

Well, I think back when we had a dozen channels, it was a much more intimate act that it is now. The chance that you were all watching the same thing was much greater.

My first experience with that intimacy with the other people listening was when Jonesy had his record-breaking show in 2001, and the WFMU messageboard lit up with commentary about what was going on at that moment on the show. I feel like a new era in the listening community was born that day.

BadGuyZero:

@Matt: I like the first Tin Machine album much more than most people do. It was cool to see him involved in something where he didn't want the focus to be solely on him [even though it was]. They covered Pixies' "Debaser" during their set. The Dallas Times Herald published its last edition the day of the show. Bowie read a [fake] review of the show that would have appeared in the paper. It had some stuff about Bowie collecting everyone's clothing, descending to the rafters, then returning a few minutes later with a pile of freshly cleaned and pressed clothing.
