Hey Scott, Greg, VP, Yair, bloopy and everyone else! Thanks for coming here today.

@Scott: It was quite emotional on Therese's show, where it started as a Happy Birthday/new album Bowie theme, and suddenly shifted into a memorial tribute mood. What a world of difference in that context.

Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: Which, I repeated in my own sense of bewilderment.
Someone named "Disco Dare" first broke the news, which I and others thought was a joke on all the Bowie being played. Just like when Dave Davies is played on FMU, people wonder if he's died and that's a tribute.

But then Therese announces it, and I thought she was punk'd. Wiki had updated the date of death, but no circumstances were listed and the article was unprotected. I thought it was some vandal trying to cause trouble, but then a Google search saw Hollywood Reporter, BBC and other outlets with the same sad news. I was shocked.

So, I watched the Lazarus video the other day when the Blackstar was released, and noted how unwell David looked, shrugged it off, age. I listened to Station to Station and Low that night to get a Bowie fix. Woke to the news this morning and it has messed my head good for most the day. Listening is helping.

Deeper storytelling, more theatric senses! Yes!

@Santos: I remembered "Chicken Soup with Rice" from my elementary years, only learned more about "Really Rosie" once I came across FMU. I'd like to check out the whole thing again.

Thanks coelacanth! I'm switching btw Bowie avatars for the near future. I found a nice newer pic where he wears a fedora, and shows his different colored eyes. But the shape is a bit too landscape and looks compressed in the FS. So the other one is an early, mid 60s Bowie that I really liked (and hey, maybe this is how he looked when recording THIS current song!)

@coelacanth: Speaking of Scott Walker, I think he resembles Scott Walker with the suit and hair, until you look at the face. This one even predates his self-titled debut "David Bowie" in 1967.

The whole Bowie is a pastiche artist bugs me. Do people say Picasso is because Les Demoiselles D'Avignon is like Cezannes The Bathers? Of course they don't. They talk about Picasso's genius in reinventing it.
Bowie meant a hell of a lot to me. This and Joe's show have been great, thanks Scott. (and Joe).

I think in a lot of ways David Bowie was an opportunist. And you know what? If you just have people doing everything with the most pure motives, you get a whole lot of earnest music that doesn't change. I like fun and weirdness and posing and goofiness. While I wasn't the biggest Bowie fan, I appreciated him trying to not be bored.
