Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Melissa Jean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm doctorjazz:

Wynonie! (good thing I waited a minute to post, thought Milt Trenier was Wynonie for a minute, would have had some egg on my face).
  2:06pm sugarwolf:

Oh hi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm listener james from westwood:

That Milt was an ace. And an Ace. Afternoon, Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Nate K.:

Anybody have a favorite Mingus album?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Matt F:

Probably Blues & Roots. His most rock & roll album...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Melissa Jean:

Oooooo I haven't heard much Marie Knight but know about her from the American Masters on Sister Rosetta - love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm doctorjazz:

I love Cumbia and Jazz Fusion (and a bunch of others, including Matt's suggestion), @Nat K
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Nate K.:

Hmm....I don't know Jazz Fusion. I'm partial to Black Saint and the Sinner Lady myself.
  2:17pm Hackensack Slim:

Get off the table, Mabel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks for a tribute to Giorgio! I was glad to go to his last party last May.
Avatar 2:48pm Brian in UK:

Hi Matt, looking for a good Wynonie Harris comp. Is it Bloodshot Eyes or is there another better one out there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Matt F:

That Rhino one is great but might be outta print.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Nate K.:

My fave line from that recent Iggy/Bowie article in the Times was: Mr. Pop’s “Nightclubbing,” a song on “The Idiot” that reflected postconcert club excursions across Europe with Mr. Bowie, was recorded with a cheap synthesizer and an early drum machine . .. “[Bowie] said, ‘I can’t put out a record with that,’” Mr. Pop recalled. “I said, ‘But I can.’
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, good call, I had not yet heard this Langley fave yet.
  3:00pm Bela from Budapest:

Thanks for this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Parq:

Heard this Langley track a couple of times before, but really paying attention to it this week. Beautiful and kind of disturbing. I can really see how the album had such an unexpected effect on people. It sounds like someone's pounding on one of those drums from a Hollywood slave galley scene.
Avatar 3:08pm Brian in UK:

Hints of Long Walk to DC on this cut.
Avatar 3:10pm Mailman Tom:

Now that you mentioned his name, how about playing something from a real talented musician, namely, Mr. Chuck Berry !
Avatar 3:11pm ndbob:

@Parq Check out the entire Langley collection
Avatar 3:18pm Dominick:

yeah baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Jeff Golick:

Checking in...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Parq:

I was just reminded by something I was reading that Alan Rickman played Hilly Kristal in the CBGB movie. I think I speak for all of us when I say, we forgive him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Melissa Jean:

ah, Newport
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Melissa Jean:

...& hbd Allen Toussaint. wow man, thanks for all this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm listener james from westwood:
