The Rainforest World Music Festival takes place every summer at the fascinating Sarawak Cultural Village outside of Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, on the spectacular tropical island of Borneo. It's a great festival at a remarkable site and Rob was fortunate enough to be invited by the Sarawak Tourism Board to attend this past August.
Tonight's show looks at day two of the three-day gathering, with concert excerpts, a musical taste of one of the many festival multi-artist cross-cultural workshops, and interview or press conference sound bites from the performers. You’ll also hear festival MC Hendrick Foh, host of The Borneo Broadcast, deliver his colorful stage intros for the artists.
For more, check out Rob's show covering day one of the festival and stay tuned, there's still one more installment to come.
Also recommended: Manhuman Rao’s superb coverage of the festival, with excellent photos, for World Music Central.
The next Rainforest World Music Festival will be August 5 to 7, 2016. The first bookings have been announced, including Ghanian highlife great Pat Thomas, Southwest China’s visionary trad-rock band Shanren, Stelios Petrakis Cretan Quartet - which just gave a great performance at globalFEST in NYC, tri-cultural fiddle-wizards Violons Barbares, Cuban a cappella icons Vocal Sampling, engaging UK-based Ethiopian trio Krar Collective, and of course an array of excellent ensembles from peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, plus lots more. Tickets and info at http://rwmf.net/.
