this is....... not the best version of diesel smoke, to be gracious.

It's interesting! I like to switch it up every now & then. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. Plus I love everything Grady Martin did. But yeah, there are more rockin' versions of DSDC out there for sure. ;)

glenn:

oh, grady's fabulous. it's the burl ives part that ruins it.
Avatar 7:08pm
glenn:

i also think it's a bad idea to try and redo a minor key song in a major key.
Avatar 7:08pm
Julea:

Ha! To each his own. ;) I'm trying to feature every version of "Diesel Smoke" at some point. I'm working on getting my hands on Foy Willing's version, which is apparently the first recorded version!

Julea:

Yeah, the minor to major thing can be tricky to pull off.

you COULD do an entire red simpson show. i would praise you.

I did, just a few weeks ago!

Right after he passed. I think it's up in the archives.

But I might have to do another one at some point. You can never have too much Red Simpson in your ears.

glenn:

i missed it, and you're right. he's the howlin' wolf of truckin' music.

Julea:

Red's the man. He called me on the phone, out of the blue, just a few hours before he passed away!

I love hearing all the different versions!!

glenn:

oh oh. don't let dolly parton call you.
Avatar 7:15pm
Julea:

It's fun! I still don't know if I've heard them all. I'm on the hunt for the Foy Willing version and Gene Autry's version.

Julea:

I would probably be the one to keel over if Dolly called me, lol! I would hopefully be able to handle myself, but I would probably turn into a babbling school girl and sound more like Chris Farley when he interviewed Paul McCartney in that SNL skit. ;)
Avatar 7:18pm
glenn:

yes. and then chris farley died.
Avatar 7:21pm
Julea:

Yep. See. That would be me. I think I might could die a happy woman after hanging out with Dolly.

glenn:

is this faron warmer on plantation records, by any chance? it's got that shelby singleton vibe to it.
