Diggin' the heavy sounds here in LA as I do the dishes. (Will try not to break any as I bang my head.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am
Tome:

when you think about it 50 years ago !! wow ... loved the 1st LP too , and Signe Anderson too .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am
coelacanth:

as am i Nick; and the ugly animal was excellent.
Avatar 12:54am
Alejandroool:

the slide on this is great....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am
coelacanth:

yeh, those first 5 albums. 'mostly excellent.
surrealistic pillow and volunteers were a huge part of my high-school daze, until punk took over!
...i rarely liked Slick's singing, but she wrote some great songs.
  1:00am
rw:

Hey!

I like After Bathing at Baxter's
  1:00am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: The thing with Jefferson Airplane is they really, really, really overdid it during their “Starship” phase and it almost overwhelms everything else they did that was worth knowing/caring about. Heart almost went down that route as well, but never went as far as they did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am
coelacanth:

...yeah,50 years ago. 1965...people don't realise how groundbreaking it was then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am
coelacanth:

hey rw!
yeah,Jake. now i think about it,i was already into JA when volunteers was released, via my older brother; then lost track of them, probably because he didn't like "bark" or anything after.
but then i heard the starship stuff on the radio and 100% hated it immediately!
  1:06am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: I think there was one record exec or producer in the 1980s whose responsible for attempting to “revive” older bands in the 1980s with big hair and synths.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am
coelacanth:

(...i must be mistaken AGAIN! i think it was c.'71-'72 that my brother got volunteers...but before 'starship came any way.)
...who was it Jake?
Avatar 1:11am
ausmanx:

lovely to arrive and hear (unmistakeably) mr fripp. evening all...
Avatar 1:11am
Alejandroool:

NN really enjoying the tunes - helping me get work done... on JA - think I'm too young to offer much input, but I obviously got into them at some point for however long/ whatever impact it may have had...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am
coelacanth:

good timing ausmanx!

Aleja- i was too young to experience it as it hit; but a few years later was just old enough to understand the turmoil of the time, and what role this revolutionary music played in that.
-it blew my little mind! i remember very clearly.
Avatar 1:17am
Alejandroool:

man, this is dark sounding, and the dirty bass - love it. Should check out the full Live album
  1:20am
Clay:

Krankin' the Krimson on the TNP, baby! WTG Nick!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am
coelacanth:

and ausmanx Thanks again! this weekend i'll listen to it.

Jake, forgive my ignorance but i don't know who you meant...i fairly successfully disengaged myself from mainstream and popular music by the early 80s,and didn't start paying attention again until around 1996- when my car could only get the most powerful stations, and i was with a woman who indulged in some mainstream stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am
Tome:

... "cool" jaZZ , when requested to play in the car in the 90's , oiy ... but good memories ,,
Avatar 1:34am
Alejandroool:

16 yrs! what would you have heard in 1996 on the most powerful stations at that time hmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am
coelacanth:

yes. there's some music that i like that i probably never would have if not for someone else who i wanted to be open-minded for!
...a lot of those songs i didn't know were mainstream radio songs until years later! i thought she was turning me on to obscure underground music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am
Tome:

... there's now place like home,,, right here ,,
Avatar 1:37am
Alejandroool:

such a great sounding recording - excellent amount of reverb, great stereo mix...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am
coelacanth:

Aleja, rage against the machine, s.t.p.,pearl jam, soul coughing, black crows....
....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am
coelacanth:

this whole album was pretty amazing.
Avatar 1:39am
Alejandroool:

yes - CC, played some of that music in various parent's basements in 1996...hah
Avatar 1:41am
Dave Bombay:

That jefferson airplane track caught me off guard in a wonderful way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am
coelacanth:

hey Aleja, not to beat down a subject, but lest i contradict myself in the future and it looks like i'm fulla shit!... i want to say that that 16 years wasn't spent in a vacuum. i did buy "surfer rosa" when it came out,for instants; and got into nirvana in '92. there must be others i'm not recalling.
...so, were you playing in a band in 1996?
Avatar 2:07am
Alejandroool:

aha no worries - hah nothing that would count, I was 15 yrs old in 1996
Avatar 2:08am
Alejandroool:

still even learning how to play an instrument I'm sure
  2:12am
rw:

Nick! Hate to do it but I'm cutting out early because my eyes hurt and I'm not getting any work done. Always dig your shows. I may have to listen to the remainder on my way to work tomorrow morning. Have a good week/weekend everybody!

A, you mentioned fugazi,so sure enough i thought of fugazi... i like fugazi- and i'm not sure i would've thought of it if you hadn't said it. so- "influenced by" but not mimicking= good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am
coelacanth:

yes i need to check out too Nick. Thanks Great program!
ciao all.
Avatar 2:25am

well thx CC for checking it out. we are self aware about that, but not in a bad way, I try very little to describe music when involved in making it..
