It's funny there are so many countless coke endorsing songs from bands in the 60's and they didn't get knocked for it; Unlike now...;Yeah Boyce & Heart vs. Leiber & Stoller that's a debate that could rage on well into the depths of a drunken night between music geeks such as me & you and many many many others.
...junk food was still considered an industrial marvel - Pop - not a chemical plague...well - gradually the Hippies changed that; 'SellOut' was already a Requim, actually...
@Deb @RevRab At least Pete was honest about that fact when confronted about Who songs showing up in commercials in the 90's till the present= He says "I'm A Songwriter For Hire!...THAT's WHAT I DO!" in an interview...
They were his Art School project that was supposed to explode quickly - & then people attached themselves to his songwriting as meaningful, & it went another way (including the royalty checks). Pete always says he wouldn't be a Wh♂fan...
But I still cant get That Bill Hicks rant about Debbie Gibson hocking Diet coke...too much!. Personally If I were a multi multi millionaire I would not be using my music for car commercials. Struggling is another story.
The Economy was completely different in the 1960s - before Recessions & things began in the 1970s. The rest of Society was in complete turmoil & change in the 60s - but there was money. (Let's Drop Out! - it's not like we could - yerknow *starve* er anything...)
Well - actually - they did that tour partly to enable Entwistle to live in the manner to which he was accustomed...What I think is a bummer is when an act that once represented creative & responsive change becomes its' own tribute band...
