OMG Sleeper....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm

howdy sugarwold, coel, and jon! Yep, Sleeper alright!
  9:21pm
clinton hensley:

My boy, Dylan says, "Hi, Evan!" He's still up because his mom is getting ready to head to NYC for a biz meeting set for early tomorrow morning. Guess she can get some sleep on the plane. Oh, what a long 24 hours for her. At least she gets to be back in her old stomping grounds. And he's digging your Bowie choice btw. ;)

Loretta, I would like to call your attention to the upcoming listing at the top of my main playlist index page. (click the "back to The Evan "Funk" Davies Show playlists" link over there on the left)

nice, hi back to Dylan and safe travels Mrs. H!
  9:26pm
Cheli:

Hi, Evan! If your speciality tonight is '70s obscurities, may I request something from the Outsiders' "Calling on Youth"?
  9:29pm
Santos L Halper:

Evening efd. That Zombi was reminiscent of Dance on a Volcano era Genesis; intriguing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
efd:

shifting gears now Cheli, but I will make a note of that request -- I'm not familiar with it offhand.

Some insane "oh wow" records tonight.

Pretty sweet tip on Genya Ravan.

Nice cadence, but I'd stick with "Funk".

I have to, I'm too invested in the EFD brand at this point.

Eddy in Australia:

Hi Evan and fellow Funksters. Good to hear Genya Ravan. I didn't know she was involved with the CBGBs label (or how to pronounce her name, for that matter!). The guitar on that song reminded me of Thin Lizzy.
  9:50pm
Eddy in Australia:

Re. Daniel Livingstone: Discogs is my default reference too, but he does show up on 45cat. Dutch!
  9:52pm
Eddy in Australia:

Just scored a (green) vinyl 7" of that Sleeper single last week. Nice coincidence.
  9:53pm
Yonkers Mike:

efd, this intense set is freaking me out. I'm trembling. maybe it's the Chinese food I ingested?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
efd:

hey Eddy! That is a funny coincidence! I think I found that 45cat listing too... I picked the record up in Amsterdam last fall so I wasn't surprised to learn he was Dutch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm
efd:

It's gotta be the food, Mike!
  9:54pm
JakeGould:

I once ate a batch of Newman’s Oreo Cookie rip offs and had the shakes. Just once. Could be I ate a bad batch.
  9:58pm
clinton hensley:

I typed my name in the discogs search and a Shakira album came up. :) My go-to is AllMusic. There, I'm "eclectic and unpredictable" rather than a Colombian, female pop artist. Tomato - To-mah-to.
  9:59pm
JakeGould:

Hey. That 8-Track tape you just played miscued.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm
coelacanth:

"bruce juice in the morning" is part of why i gave up on wnew!...that and other stupid things they'd do and say, like after playing tracks from "armed forces" by elvis costello, "i don't know what he's so angry about."
...and ads for the u.s. army.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
coelacanth:

allmusic has so many ads and moving activity that my computer freezes up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
coelacanth:

this is where the "Funk Davies" comes from.
  10:09pm
clinton hensley:

Yes, AllMusic is indeed glitchy.
  10:15pm
Yonkers Mike:

I'm gonna test the "Intensity" theory:
Is it the efd playlist set or the Chinese take-out that is making me freak out.
I'll start eating again @ 10:30pm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
coelacanth:

this computer is a "snow leopard", refurbished c. 2011?...internet video is usually not gonna play through, and even some (ie Ken's and often Jesse Kaminski's) wfmu playlists slow it down a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
coelacanth:

are you feeling better now Mike?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Stevel:

Good evening. Hey Eddy, and all y'all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
coelacanth:

hello Stevel
  10:26pm
clinton hensley:

I like the subtle Nick Drake-isms of Cian.
  10:31pm
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Snow Leopard is solid, but web browsers choke. I just accepted a position as a developer for the first time in ages. And it’s going to be “fun”: They have mobile app needs and my debugging skills were a bit selling point. So I need to test things to make sure batteries don’t explode when GIFs load. So hey.
  10:33pm
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: FWIW, my obtuse connection is web pages that simply seem “slow” on an older machine can pretty much drain batteries on mobile devices to the point of overheating. So this is a new world I am stepping into that is somehow connected to the old world of browser nonsense.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
efd:

I don't even think it's dot matrix -- it's even more old-school than that!
  10:51pm
JakeGould:

@efd: Daisy wheel? Makes sense. When they taught me programming in the 1980s in public school it was on punch cards with output on paper just like that. Mind tons of folks had 1980s personal computers at home… But we were “taught” that way. Anyway, you have a genuine relic!
  10:54pm

Thanks for another great show, E. Gotta send Mrs. H off and be relatively functional for the little man tomorrow. Thanks again. c

Michael from the Left Coast:

but Barenaked Ladies did a tv theme song for one of the most popular shows of this era--so it' s no surprise that OMD ( who have been out of the touring marketplace for some time) would be opening for them, although it may offend our aesthetic sensibilities

It's alright Evan, we can dream
  11:15pm
JakeGould:

Even if “Barenaked Ladies” wrote a new national anthem for Canada, they would still be the opposite of what rock is. They suck. They are just horrible.
  11:16pm
kreplach:

what is this??? 9:16 mstd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
coelacanth:

Jake, (@10:31) it has been dependable, usually. there have been problems a few times that i never got explanations for, but they got worked out anyway...except the video/gif thing. that started maybe a year after i bought it and nothing helps. my "activity monitor" goes to "firefox 106.--% usage" when a youtube video is high-def or longer than a few minutes.
...but of course, one by one, compatible programs are no longer available for it.
so...what do you mean by "web browsers choke"?
Avatar 11:17pm
northguineahills:

@kreplach: running?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
efd:

@kreplach, yeah, that was Running.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Barenaked ladies is for nice people.
  11:19pm
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: What I meant by web browsers choking is just what you describe. Web browsers were never initially designed for multimedia, but they are now being pushed to the limits. Thus what you experience. And heck, my iPhone 6S can heat if I screw up a bit of JavaScript code. I know it screws up because my phone physically gets hotter with some sloppy code. Sign of inefficient code and battery being drained too quickly. And thus heat. And in your laptop it just means the system chokes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
coelacanth:

hmm, okay. Thanks...but, i still have my windows xp desktop, and videos are not a problem with it. why's that?
(i wont be offended if you don't want to pursue this!..and i'll end it soon anyway.)
  11:24pm
JakeGould:

“Anglo Girl Desire?” What’s an anglo girl’s desire? Frozen yogurt and macarons?
  11:26pm
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Core OS and systems differences that are too pedantic to get into. At the end of the day I will say if you have no need for Windows or Mac OS X I would recommend just getting a laptop that can handle Ubuntu Linux. Sounds “weird” but desktop Ubuntu is useful for 99% of most people’s needs and things just work tons better. But that’s all I can add for now because I am a bit drunk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
coelacanth:

Thanks Jake!
...you just opened a can of worms, but i'll put it in the fridge.
