  9:19am SeanG:

Avatar 9:21am Wild Neil:

Dudes!
  9:25am SeanG:

Avatar 9:27am Wild Neil:

Marty you really put the FREE in FREEFORM.
  9:29am bill:

ahh, "new wave"
  9:33am bill:

ahh, new "new wave"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Cliff:

ahh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Ken From Hyde Park:

Tune in to Marty and get with the party!
Avatar 9:38am Wild Neil:

@Bill-"new wave"? Huh?
  9:38am bill:

wow that was one smooth-ass seque
  9:38am Brendan:

This music is transporting me to somewhere not here. Thanks for the ticket.
Avatar 9:41am Wild Neil:

@Marty-WOW, I just love CAN, and read up on them on Wikipedia and had no idea they existed until now. Thank you! Up there with Bevis Frond on my list of must gets.
  9:43am bill:

my favorite marathon appeal: "Hey you asshole hipsters, we schooled your ass in Can"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Cliff:

Bwahaha, somebody actually said that during a marathon?!
Avatar 9:45am Wild Neil:

@Bill-I consider myself schooled although not a hipster. Hey Bill, can you please clue me on the "new wave" thing? I know new wave came out in the late 70's early 80's but not sure what you are getting at. Please help me understand.
  9:46am bill:

yes! on Diane's show - I got the feeling it's ok to take off the gloves there
Avatar 9:47am Marcel M:

YO!
Avatar 9:48am Wild Neil:

@Marcel-dude.
  9:49am bill:

WN - "new wave" was kind of a catch all for anything not strictly mainstream, like "alternative" in the 90s
  9:49am MONEYBAG$:

Pretty sure I exposed one of the DJs there to Can, not naming names
Avatar 9:50am bobdoesthings:

hi marcel
  9:50am Brendan:

Wow just had a musical deja vu revelation . Talk about influence. The progression, rhythm and solo of the first guitar solo of Porcupine Tree's track Anesthetize is SERIOUSLY influenced by that Can track.
Avatar 9:51am Marcel M:

BOB!

Neil, I'm jealous of your Can Virginity. Discovering them for me was an awakening I'll never forget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Cliff:

Later on I think New Wave got redefined to just mean Talking Heads, Blondie, etc., poppy not-quite-punk bands, and early Cabaret Voltaire got stuck in with Industrial
Avatar 9:52am Wild Neil:

@Bill-OK! Yeah, I remember back when Beck's "Loser" was playing-simultaneously-on my car radio in Atlantic City, NJ both on Stockton State's radio station (college radio) AND the local rock station. At that point "alternative" had, perhaps, jumped the shark. 1993.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Cliff:

Marty, it cracks me up listening to you talk about the places you eat at :D
Avatar 9:53am Marcel M:

Yeah the Jesus thing at In n Out is really weird.
  9:53am Brendan:

Love how you can serendipitously find a predecessor/ influence to something you love and that becomes the new avenue. Thanks MM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am rsj:

you rolling trump style? you cannot deny the holy connection between burgers and the good lord, with cheese
Avatar 9:53am Rev. Turnip Druid:

DAGNABBIT. Missed Can... Saw Delight is usually ranked poorly among the smarty-pants crowd, but it's got solid winners. It was among the first CAN sounds I ever heard (so long ago), therefore...
  9:53am Mandrax:

Check out Irv's Burgers on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood
Avatar 9:54am Wild Neil:

I think the movie "Liquid Sky" was "New Wave" in some respects....
@Marcel-I am so SURPISED by some of the music I hear on WFMU some days...just EYE OPENING like the first time I heard King Crimson back in 85 or so...
Avatar 9:54am bobdoesthings:

ahhh! sound is only in Right headphone! I feel like i'm going to tip over
Avatar 9:55am Marcel M:

I can appreciate the later Can stuff more now than when I first discovered them. I was so into the early stuff, when I threw on the later stuff I was like, "the fuck?" But now I can get down with it more.
Avatar 9:56am Marcel M:

@BOB: Stand on your left food to balance out yr equilibrium.
Avatar 9:56am bobdoesthings:

ahhhh headphones fixed... tthx!
Avatar 9:56am Wild Neil:

Las Cruces NM had this goofy, dirty place called Golden Bull that would sometimes make me sick but we ALL LOVED IT no matter...their burgers were pure heaven on earth.
@Marcel-I now REALLY like EARLY King Crimson over their stuff with Adrian Belew. Its all awesome, I just like it better.
Avatar 9:56am bobdoesthings:

@marty not at @marcel. haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am JtotheK:

good morning everyone.
  9:58am Brendan:

@Wild Neil , I'm with you man. Gonna dive into the Can
Avatar 9:58am Rev. Turnip Druid:

@marcel: I'm still a bit hard on the self-titled one (1979), although the subtle riff in the middle of the tune "safe" is immortally awesome.
Avatar 9:58am Cecile:

hola!
Avatar 9:59am Cecile:

I love this song.
Avatar 9:59am Marcel M:

@Rev: I'm not even sure I've listened to that record. I'll check out that track tho.
Avatar 10:00am Marcel M:

Hi Cecile
Avatar 10:01am Cecile:

YES
Avatar 10:02am Cecile:

Marty, I am trying to not be like a broken record on this, but what are your thoughts on "Hamilton"? I kind of adore it now.
Avatar 10:03am Cecile:

Neil, Bevis Frond are awesome, and Nick Salomon is passionate, funny music critic, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am CHRIStafariRI:

"Oh my god!"
Avatar 10:03am Cecile:

Unless someone asks, "Hey Cecile, how come you're name is highlighted?!"
Avatar 10:14am Wild Neil:

@Bob does things-still coveting your stereo system.
  10:15am Brendan:

It s our little secret . I wont tell. Oops
  10:15am Brendan:

Is this like live
Avatar 10:15am Marcel M:

@BOB: yeah I think it has to do with what browser you are on and when the last time you cleared your cache and cookies.
Avatar 10:16am Cecile:

yeah, Cliff, that might be a bit of a giveaway
Avatar 10:16am Wild Neil:

@Cecile-some Bevis Fond guys did some other band thing on another guys show yesterday on Imaginary Radio with Chris M...WOW...it was like the transmorgiified brotherhood of something something...check it out it is so HEAVY....
Avatar 10:17am Cecile:

Avatar 11:01am Cecile:

Is downtown where good thrift and consignment shops are? I have heard the Vegas thrift stores are legendary.
Avatar 11:01am Wild Neil:

@Cecile-I'm sure he thought it was a good idea at the time...
Avatar 11:03am Cecile:

Yeah, he probably died in Canada a while back. He probably sold out some very bad people. My dad hired a private investigator and the investigator pretty much said "he's alive. don't try to find him."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Cliff:

Wow Cecile.
  11:05am Brendan:

This is kick ass
Avatar 11:06am Cecile:

I asked my dad once if my "Aunt Carol" had been played by Annette Bening in the Bugsy movie. He gave me a Cheshire cat like smile and a tiny nod of his head.
