Good morning!
Avatar 12:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

working from home today, which means SPEAKERS.
…"headphones" are SO last week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm cory:

Avatar 12:10pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 12:10pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:12pm PKNY:

G'TZAG Diane and all. Everything I've heard off this Zombi record has been a jam, have to pick this up soon!
  12:15pm Polyus:

Helloooooo Diane! Voivod were predictably awesome last Friday. Even geeked out and nabbed a setlist - they have their own font. Amazing.
  12:19pm Coe:

'Ello folks
Avatar 12:19pm Cecile:

Can you play Last in Line by Dio. I need to go see the witch today.
Avatar 12:20pm Cecile:

figuratively, I mean. and not a person. Just metaphorically going to see the witch. Ok then.
Avatar 12:22pm Diane Kamikaze:

Take This Job And Shove It? Cecile??
Avatar 12:23pm Cecile:

Not really. More like, fight the good fight against the powers that be.
Avatar 12:24pm Cecile:

Also I think it's one of Dio's best vocals.
Avatar 12:25pm Doctor Rembrandt:

This is definitely one of the two shows I will be giving money to during next week's big event
Avatar 12:26pm Cecile:

I will be very scarce next week. I even pledged in advance so I'd stay away. I went a little crazy last year.
Avatar 12:27pm Doctor Rembrandt:

This rocks!!!
Avatar 12:30pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:30pm Cecile:

I'd answer phone but am in California.
When I lived in Southern California I would answer phones during KPFK's rock show.

I found this haiku for Ronnie James Dio:

a haiku for Ronnie James Dio

Look out! For you will
bleed for the evil woman,
bound in heavy chains!
Avatar 12:36pm Cecile:

  12:39pm Coe:

surgery is the only thing that could keep me from being there in the last 5 years :)
  12:40pm Coe:

@Cecile love this I have who is totally going to lose it when I share it with him
Avatar 12:41pm Cecile:

  12:41pm Coe:

Sorry forgot the word friend in there.
Avatar 12:41pm Cecile:

also awwww
Avatar 12:42pm Cecile:

I am going to put the haiku in my InDesign Dio presentation. But I'll contact the original blogger, it's only right.
Avatar 12:43pm Cecile:

  12:48pm Dean:

You said, "Hallow/Hollow," but I heard "Hello, Hello," and I thought, "Wow, she's going to spin New England's 'Hello, Hello, Hello.'" Er, not quite.
  12:49pm Mark R:

Time for my Thursday afternoon meditation and serenity music. Thank you, Swami Diane. I'm now at one with the universe.
Avatar 12:53pm Diane Kamikaze:

@Mark R: which universe would that be?
  12:54pm Mark R:

The cosmic beyond. Your tranquil soundscapes are opening my higher chakras. My third eye weeps with joy.
Avatar 12:58pm Diane Kamikaze:

Hmmm. I see. Keep weeping!
  1:02pm Dean:

How do you make a simply divine omelet?

Use a great God pan.
Avatar 1:05pm Diane Kamikaze:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Rainbow's "Stargazer" came up in rotation on my phone this morning. Some nice Dio vocals on that track.
Avatar 1:20pm Cecile:

there is a Goth drag queen called Nocturna Lee Mission in my neighborhood. She usually performs to hard rock or goth. I can see him doing this song justice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm cory:

Made Out Of Babies is the best band name i've heard in a very long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Michael in Seattle:

She's a model and she's looking good
I'd like to take her home that's understood
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

Don't hold me to this, but I don't think there is a bad cover of this song.
Avatar 1:32pm Cecile:

I even saw her on the cover of a mag-a-zine!
Avatar 1:33pm Chris from DC:

Awesome cover.
Avatar 1:35pm Chris from DC:

Oh and Th'Wizard!
  1:35pm Coe:

Can someone do a mash up of this version of the model and black sabbath?
  1:36pm Dean:

Avatar 1:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 1:41pm Cecile:

good article, but no Snakefinger? No Senor Coconut?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Michael in Seattle:

thank you for remembering Snakefinger
Avatar 1:44pm Cecile:

I still miss him most days.
  1:46pm Dean:

Totally forgot about Snakefinger! Did Senor Coconut do "The Model"? Not on list above, and comment at synthtopia says no...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Michael in Seattle:

and all those great Ralph Rekkids
Avatar 1:48pm Cecile:

Whoops, you are right Dean.
Avatar 1:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 1:48pm PKNY:

  1:48pm Dean:

Watched a Residents live video a couple days ago featuring Snakefinger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm chris:

Avatar 1:49pm Cecile:

I got to see him with them once. He was back in the shadows, but still kind of radiant.
Avatar 1:49pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Michael in Seattle:

saw Tuxedomoon live a couple times
  1:50pm Polyus:

Always loved that middle part.
  1:50pm Coe:

  1:51pm Dean:

I saw them at the Roxy in Hollywood for the Mole Show, but I honestly don't remember if he was working with them at the time. Saw them just three or four years ago here in Berkeley, too, at the (now vacant) art museum across the street from where I work.
  1:52pm Dean:

Local history!
  1:52pm Matt in Hillsborough:

the prow is just the kind of song i needed to hear today B)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Michael in Seattle:

i hear that!
Avatar 1:53pm Cecile:

  1:53pm Dean:

Strange coincidence, this. I'm sitting in my office dressed in tie-dye and smoking dope.
  1:54pm Dean:

Ocean View became Albany, a tiny town northwest of Berkeley. My kid goes to Ocean View School.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Alejandroool:

Hello Diane & Thursday Fun Machiners
Avatar 1:55pm kirk from beer city usa:

seems like mx-80 sound is a regular feature on the fun machine now. I'm OK with that.
  1:57pm voivod:

jeez, wasn't even paying attention. totally missed me.
  1:57pm Dean:

Heard these dudes at the Fillmore when they opened for Meshuggah a few years ago.
  1:57pm ledzeppelinsucks:

Solano in AVE used to be lined with bars Albany a used pressure and attrition to get rid of them since thw 70's now Solano is boring
  1:59pm Dean:

To boot, San Pablo is still lined with bars, but they're all slowly being renovated to make them more "cool."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm chris:

suckizep, nothing with a Zachary's pizza can be boring, it seems to me
  2:00pm Dean:

Uh, oh. Never discuss politics, religion, or pizza on a comments board!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Alejandroool:

ooh Voivod is here tomorrow night but I have to work
  2:04pm Polyus:

"let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"
  2:05pm ledzeppelinsucks:

I like BlueMoon in El Cerrito, Missouri Lounge in Berkeley I used to go to LaneSplitter on San Pablo
  2:07pm Dean:

Have yet to set foot in Blue Moon or Missouri Lounge (namesake of a song by Penelope Houston), but I was at Lanesplitter just last night! Good local DIPA on tap.
  2:15pm ram:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm chris:

wooo! yes!
Avatar 2:15pm InBrkly:

I haven't heard ministry in so long....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm sphere:

better late than ever i always say. good afternoon!
Avatar 2:16pm InBrkly:

We used to call that place the Misery Lounge
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Rich in Washington:

That Ministry album was such a game changer.
  2:18pm ledzeppelinsucks:

Enron staff used to go to Lanesplitter at University/San Pablo I sat at a table in back and heard two of them scheming to 'import' power from a mothballed military base in CA to CA
Avatar 2:19pm InBrkly:

Yeah it was a bit of a departure from Twitch and earlier haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Rich in Washington:

@InBrkly: but also in terms of hybridizing Industrial with a punk/metal edge. I remember hearing 'Thieves' on the radio - only being vaguely aware of Ministry at that point - and practically running out to find it immediately. I hadn't heard anything so aggressively cool for years at that point, it seemed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Rich in Washington:

They were so influential, up to a point. So many great and lesser bands owe them a debt of gratitude for synthesizing such a great sound to rip off.
What the hell happened to them, though?
Avatar 2:27pm Cecile:

I think drug problems and anxiety did them in.

I still have a hard time with them. It's hard to erase "Halloween" from your brainpan.
  2:31pm ledzeppelinsucks:

MY FRIEND USED TO LIVE IN THE PLACE NEXT TO bOFa PARKING LOT ACROSS FROM mISS lOUNGE that hippie that drives the hand painted yellow Volvo was his neighbor Sam is the hippie's name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm chris:

摇滚 !!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Rich in Washington:

I missed Ministry's sweater and mascara era altogether. I was just barely aware of them, but went backwards through their discography as far as I could stand.
I did like Twitch, even thoug it was at the time derided as a shameless, late-era Cabaret Voltaire ripoff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Rich in Washington:

@Cecile: I think you're right about the drugs and anxiety part, though. Also, the departure of Paul Barker seemed to have cemented their place in crap aggro metal hell.
Avatar 2:39pm Cecile:

Avatar 2:43pm Cecile:

  2:44pm Dean:

We must be talking about two different Lanesplitters in Berkeley at University/San Pablo. No way EVER they would serve Enron staff.
  2:46pm ram:

Awesome somg.
Avatar 2:49pm Cecile:

awesome groove
Avatar 2:51pm fred:

I arrive just in time for Cadaver Eyes, nice timing
Avatar 2:51pm northguineahills:

Cadaver Eyes, new to me and digging!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Michael in Seattle:

headphone workout
Avatar 2:52pm fred:

@NGH: one of listener Zax' many projects
Avatar 2:56pm northguineahills:

Cool, Fred, will check out!
  2:57pm ledzeppelinsucks:

they serve anyone including psychos
  2:57pm ram:

I was lucky enough to live the "with sympathy" Ministry era, then was disappointed with Twitch and then loved everything that came after. I never saw them live unfortunately but were at some clubs where they hung out after shows. I missed the guys a lot. Nowadays noone has their cojones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm chris:

thanks, Diane! great show, and great hardcore ending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Next stop: Marathon!
  3:00pm Mark R:

Yes, my dog has his head under the couch now. Well done.
