Hello young lad!

Then I DON'T wanna win!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Parq:

Less than $1700 to go! It could happen during this show, folks. It could!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm JP from KC:

Hiya, Irwin! I dig that quote.
  3:06pm P-90:

marathon afterglow greetings, Irwin and Chusidiots!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Station Manager Ken predicted that the goal will be met during Irwin's show. Certainly looks doable.
  3:07pm Brendan:

Love this rhythm

  3:17pm JakeGould:

$1,700 is one months rent for a crappy apartment in Manhattan's less desirable neighborhoods. Someone can do this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Alison Porchnik:

Obviously hinting www.ustream.tv...
starts at 1:23:38
Avatar 3:19pm βrian:

Manhattan, KS?
  3:22pm Listener Robert:

The rumor is false. That blowfish is very much alive, and blowing other fish.

  3:24pm Listener Robert:

Yeah? Well, fugu, too!

@Brian - you'd better get of the Lake then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Prescient Calypso!

Safely off the lake, though I can keep an eye on it from the window.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Alejandro in TO:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Cliff:

Oh good, I was hoping they'd use a theremin

You're the cutest unicorn in the world!
Avatar 3:40pm Brian in UK:

Irwin. Marcus Aurelius had it tied down, if I may quote my favourite of the little I have read of his.

And you have forgotten this too, that every man's mind is god and has flowed from that source; that nothing is our own property, but even our child, our body, our very soul have come from that source; that all is as thinking makes it so; that each of us lives our lives only in the present moment, and the present moment is all we lose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm chris:

I hear Hank Kingsley every time they sing, "Hey now."
Avatar 3:42pm βrian:

"I'll be with you presently."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm JP from KC:

A placeholder beat. You mean you Ringo-ed it?
  3:53pm Polyus:

This group is kind of amazing, heard another song elsewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Irwin:

Polyus: It's like they took the best riff from "21st C Schizoid Man" and build a group around it.
  3:57pm Polyus:

Totally new to me - looks like that came out last year?
  3:59pm P-90:

@Polyus and Irwin: it's new to me too, but me like. a lot.
  4:12pm P-90:

Joe's wife Michal posted yesterday that he's been taken off IV anticoagulants and is gaining weight. She sounds encouraged that the "ordeal which began on December 12" may be over. Friends and admirers have pledged over $88K to cover his medical expenses.
  4:20pm P-90:

She also confirms that Joe's been working on a script for a new show. Despite proceeding "in fits and starts" during his illness, she expects he'll have "a draft ready for final edit" very soon. Something to look forward to.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Couldn't have happened during a better show. AND the Joe Frank segment!
Avatar 4:43pm geezerette:

Who did that FANTASTIC animation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm -Ken:

P-90 just a lucky guess I guess. Geezerette the whole sequence was done by Greg from Zone 5.
Avatar 4:46pm geezerette:

YAY Greg from Zone 5!!! Damn you're good!!!
Thanks Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Parq:

By the way, this percussive track behind the current passage is really cool. Any ideas what it is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Carmichael:

Damn, Greg! Props to you. You should be promoted to Zone 4 for that.
  4:50pm P-90:

@Ken: Congratulations, Fearless Leader.
@Parq: I was wondering where this great beat came from too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Alejandro in TO:

Congrats Ken and all supporters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm JP from KC:

Yeah, Greg. That thing was awesome. Props to you, congrats to Ken, the staff and volunteers, and I join the other listeners in a sigh of relief. I don't know what I'd do without this station, and thanks to everyone's efforts, I don't have to find out! This is cause for celebration! Good thing it's almost happy hour.
Avatar 4:54pm βrian:

@Parq: I agree. I want it to be my soundtrack, for the bus ride home, at least.

  4:57pm Listener Robert:

Yay! But I'd still like one of these times to see the MU cow flip over on its back (as in cow tipping) & kick its feet ecstatically in the air.
  4:59pm P-90:

So: which actual DJ does Greg's cartoon DJ most resemble?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm KevinfromBayRidge:

I think there should be a dancing robot, dirty hippie PARTY on SSD tonight, in celebration!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm JP from KC:

Great show, Irwin! Love the Joe Frank!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Cliff:

I was kinda hoping the DJ would still be wearing a loincloth and would try to use the spear as a record needle

(And Congratulations WFMU!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Parq:

This thing by Sexton Ming is a pretty cool groove, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Cliff:

You can't help but smile when there's dancey monkeys!
  5:05pm Sam:

Did the station make the goal at 4:20??? It was pretty close anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm JP from KC:

@Sam: If they did, it would just make it that much more perfect!
  5:07pm Sam:

I remember Obama promised at his inauguration that if WFMU made its goal at 4:20 during his Presidency he'd sign an executive order legalizing weed.
  5:11pm P-90:

Barry should make at least one bold move before he's done.
  5:14pm Sam:

Or maybe Colorado can just annex New Jersey. By force if necessary. I for one would welcome them as liberators.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm fleep:

Let's hear it for bold moves. Congratulations to everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Once again Ken comes through as our (atheistic)Moses in the desert of present day radio. Have a fun 40 f-ing years, Chief!
  5:22pm Jack:

very nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Cliff:

Ken even predicted it would be during Joe Frank.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Lewis:

Avatar 5:40pm pillow_out:

Avatar 5:46pm geezerette:

@pillow-out: I think Miley would approve of Irwin's rendition.
Avatar 5:48pm pillow_out:

oh i meant "robert deniro's waiting" but his rendition of miley's song was awesome and i don't even like miley cyrus
Avatar 5:50pm geezerette:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Irwin:

Thanks to ALL of you. In particular those who pledged, who volunteered, who spread the word, and even those who just listen and think good thoughts about us. WFMU: flypaper for misfits and malcontents.
  5:58pm Lyle:

I remember a brief tour with Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds in the late 70's. By then, I was getting pretty old to be on the road. I went through a couple of tubes of Ben-Gay a week just to be able to do the choreography required of the brass section during the show. Hamilton was nice enough. He also played bass for Aerosmith, so he wasn't uptight about money. Reynolds was Debbie's grandson and he was a pain in the you-know-what. He thought he should get the star treatment because his grandma was famous. Joe Frank was a bit of an oddball as I recall. When he wasn't singing in the band, he was writing his little stories, or he was collecting butterflies for his expansive collection (which he insisted upon bringing with him on the bus). Anyway, one afternoon we were sitting at a red light in Anderson, Indiana when Joe swore he saw an Ornithoptera croesus. "Stop the bus!" he shouted, and the driver ignored him. Well, Joe got mad. It was a very rare butterfly and Joe desperately wanted it for his collection. The band, however, was late for a gig at Six Flags and the driver was bound and determined to get them there on time. Joe knew it was now or never. In an instant, he opened a bus window, crawled through the opening, and dropped to the pavement below from the moving vehicle, which by this time was doing atleast 50 mph. He received multiple scrapes and bruises in the process, but with one perfectly timed lunge, he caught his butterfly. Eventually it was set in an acrylic mold which was used to make the body of Joe's custom-made bass guitar. He quit the band about a year later. People come and go from bands with regularity. I never got used to that fact.
