It's good when I look at the clock and remember to tune in at Midnight after I'm done winding down from the day, hallo JJ and Frowskateers

Heya Jessie and pairs of ears.

Hello Alejandro, Jesse

Relentless greetings to JJ and all.

this is certainly pummeling. in a great way.

feeling the easter vibe ...... yes!!

hello Jesse and others

Nothing says Easter like Oneida.

monday night crowd is up and at 'em tonight!

Avatar 12:22am Alejandro in TO:

Hope all had a good weekend, however you spent it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am coelacanth:

today was the last day of a very long work "week". i looked forward since 2-3 days ago to going to the pub tonight, but i'm knackered. i'm still debating it though!
...but good tidings to you as well,'Jandro.
Avatar 12:28am Alejandro in TO:

coela! same - Mondays are typically my "fridays". Had a busy, exhausting few days. Stayed out a little bit too late last night too. Butter Chicken Roti brought me to a good place.
Avatar 12:28am Alejandro in TO:

Roti = from tonight. I did not stay out too late because of Roti. Though that would also be okay..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am coelacanth:

haha! i was trying to figure that out!
  12:30am rw:

Hola! Frow!
Avatar 12:31am Alejandro in TO:

It would be fantastic if they were open past 10 certain nights, to be sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am jj.:

hi everybody! i hope you're all vibrating at your optimal frequencies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am coelacanth:

"roti" is indian?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am coelacanth:

well -i'm frequently vibrating!

hey rw!
Avatar 12:33am Alejandro in TO:

This particular establishment is North & South Indian
Avatar 12:34am Alejandro in TO:

It's somewhat of a staple in the city amongst certain people I guess
Avatar 12:35am Knile:

If you're familiar with Indian roti as a product, be prepared to be confused when in DC and it's the name of a Mediterranean restaurant chain...
  12:35am rw:

Hey coelacanth!

Not sure I'm at my optimal frequency but the Frow isn't hurting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am coelacanth:

a flat bread. i'm sure i've had it but not with chicken.
i seem to be eating indian style food nearly every day now though. no complaints!
Avatar 12:37am Alejandro in TO:

Knile: I was only in D.C. once briefly, but I'll keep that in mind in the future! Thankfully within walking distance I have the Indian Roti, as well as a Jamaican Roti place to switch it up
Avatar 12:37am Knile:

rotating your roti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am coelacanth:

Knile -good to know. i'd be satisfied there too.
  12:39am rw:

More tortillas than roti in my neighborhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am coelacanth:

for years there were 3 indian restaurants in my town. now there's one. the food's good, but the atmosphere is like a diner.
-and the menu is extremely limited for a vegetarian.
  12:41am rw:

Though there's a place nearby with excellent naan.
Avatar 12:44am Alejandro in TO:

now I'm glad I already ate, fresh (butter) naan always sounds appealing rw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am coelacanth:

no great mexican places here either. one opened last year. i thought it was good; but apparently most folks complained about this and that and now it's very much "americanized"...tons of cheese and not enough spice.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:46am tomasz.:

naana bread and chips for a stodgy after-hours delight
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:46am tomasz.:

i mean naan bread, ha. dammit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am coelacanth:

Ha! me too. i really miss my favorite (ever, anywhere) indian place, which is in kenilworth, nj. "star of india". superb in every way.
  12:51am rw:

Banana bread also good.

Just returned from visiting my daughter who's working at an archaeological dig in Oaxaca. She said the cook makes an amazing fried plantain and lentil soup. I hope she can get the recipe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am coelacanth:

tomasz i'd prefer that over my default-by-lack-of-option - pizza, when i'm out and need something to sop up some of the alcohol in my belly.
  12:52am JakeGould:

Good Indian food never seems to appear in Brooklyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am coelacanth:

banaana bread.
  12:53am Lyle:

I'll never forget the night I was playing with Sherwin Mann (Herbie's brother) in Jamaica. We had no formal gig set-up, rather, we had just wandered off the cruise ship we were working on and we ended up at some jerk chicken restaurant in Negril. Next thing you know, somebody hands me their trombone and Sherwin gets behind this makeshift set of drums and we're suddenly entertaining a crowd of possibly 60-70 Jamaicans. This is the funny part. In all honesty, Sherwin and I were quite inebriated at this point; so much so that Sherwin totally loses the beat. Bear in mind we were very young, so this was probably around 1952 or thereabouts. Now, this beat that Sherwin is playing ... this backwards beat ... suddenly the locals start cheering and dancing and yelling at us "Reggie! Reggie!" and I am convinced it is because Sherwin is a dead ringer for Reginald Radcliffe of the Archie comic books-fame. Whatever the case, they loved the backwards beat and the "Reggie" music we were making. Imagine our shock years later when Desmond Decker and Bob Marley gained noteriety in the states with a new thing called ... Reggae music. Had we invented it by accident way back then? I don't know. We sure had fun, though! We always had fun back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am coelacanth:

rw, i hope she can too!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:54am tomasz.:

Lyle! great to see you. you've lived such a wild life, man.
  12:56am Lyle:

Hey, Tommy! I don't understand the "Z" in your name, but I'm old. Just let me call you Tommy. Yes, I've been around, had some fun. Life is great, young man. Enjoy it! Tommy Dorsey did, I can tell you!
Avatar 1:00am Alejandro in TO:

Thx for stories Lyle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am coelacanth:

if that story is true (and i dont assume it is!) it fairly makes sense; because the root phrases "reggae" came from are similar to the roots of the term "jazz", which originally had nothing to do with music; but meant something along the lines of "a mess" or "messy thing".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am coelacanth:

anyway, yes - Thanks for the stories. i forgot about them, it's been so long.
Avatar 1:04am Alejandro in TO:

I haven't made banana bread in too long. aah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am coelacanth:

i'm sure that was the correct speed Jesse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am coelacanth:

pass the dutchie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am jj.:

thanks for the vote of confidence, coalacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am coelacanth:

(i have a cassette of very similar music.)
  1:16am rw:

I hate to say it, but I think Lyle may be a little confused. I'm pretty sure the Archie Comics were a product of the '60s and '70s. Sherwin must have resembled a different Reggie in the early '50s.
Avatar 1:18am Alejandro in TO:

I think Archie Comics were also around in the 50s but maybe a bit different?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am coelacanth:

...maybe they thought he was Reggie Workman.
  1:21am JakeGould:

Something was played at the wrong speed on WFMU? Man…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am coelacanth:

-or no, i think he was too young yet.
  1:23am JakeGould:

Archie comics in the 1950s were fairly generic looking. But the 1960s and 1970s stuff is really the classic stuff. And the goofy/sexy stuff was at it’s pinnacle back then. I mean look at this… upload.wikimedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26am coelacanth:

oh Jake that's so dirty!
  1:26am rw:

Oh, man. Archie Comics go back to the late '30s. I had no idea. Sorry to have doubted you Lyle!
Avatar 1:26am Alejandro in TO:

Doesn't bother me, JJ. Though preference is for at least 320 MP3's. It bugs me when the hi-hat/cymbal frequencies get all wonked up at lower bitrates...
  1:27am JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Well, honestly I was having a “bro” conversation with a friend who was talking about how his son loves Archie comics and we both agreed: The ladies in those comics are pretty sexy for a kids comic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am coelacanth:

honestly jj, the fidelity was fairly poor on all of those songs except "random friends". i still enjoyed them, but i wont lie and say it's not noticeable! (now you'll tell me that that too was a low-end mp3!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am jj.:

ha, yes, that, too, was an mp3 with a bitrate that i wish was higher.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am coelacanth:

ha! i don't know why it sounded much better to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am coelacanth:

anyway, lots of fmu djs play mp3s and even youtube videos over the air. i think fluctuating sound quality is the compromise accepted (and acceptable) for an infinite musical education.
Avatar 1:41am Alejandro in TO:

this Nick Carter, is a re-issue release?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am jj.:

sort of a reissue. seems like it was a private press LP circa '78-'79 but never had proper release.
Avatar 1:44am Alejandro in TO:

yea I looked it up recently, seems like the case, heard it a lot lately, all very good. Hoping maybe the record shop has a copy or maybe they can get it in. Have to remember the Flashback name.

  1:50am Ice in Bklyn:

Lo fi doesn't exist when listening on fm.
Airwaves have no feelings..
  1:52am Ice in Bklyn:

Well.. It exists, but it's harder to distinctify
  1:52am Ice in Bklyn:

Especially when the volume is turnt up
  1:54am Ice in Bklyn:

Or maybe it really doesn't exist...
  1:55am Ice in Bklyn:

Hi vol is th best way to listen to lo fi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am coelacanth:

i don't know, Ice. until a week ago, about, the 90.1 signal was my preferred source of wfmu -solely for sound reasons.
(now it sounds like total crap, since the transmitter failed)
  1:55am Ice in Bklyn:

Becuz, in my experience, it's usually recorded that way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am coelacanth:

(of course, i made a pun there! but it's true it sounds better than the internet stream.)
  1:57am Ice in Bklyn:

Sounds like a conundrum
Avatar 1:59am Alejandro in TO:

phew totally drawn in by this Kink Gong, weeeeeeooooooooo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am coelacanth:

i was without an antenna for a long time (i think we relayed stories on this before, no?) ...anyway, i'm just back to using my computer again for wfmu, as i was used to doing then. it bums me out a little.
  2:04am Ice in Bklyn:

Yeh coel, we did share not long ago. I go from Bluetooth headphones to fm to computer, and I agree that fm is one of the cleanest least fatiguing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am coelacanth:

(actually, to you it sounds like a conundrum; to me it sounds like a little portable transistor radio playing at the far end of a vacuum cleaner hose.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am coelacanth:

yeh...the other thing is that i wouldn't normally turn on my computer every day; but do want to hear wfmu most days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am coelacanth:

-and "least fatiguing". i feel that too, but why is that?
  2:10am Ice in Bklyn:

coel, you added my missing apostrophe!
It is a portable radio at the end of a vacuum tube!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12am coelacanth:
