Listener comments!

  5:59pm Listener Robert:

Chickened out already, huh?
  5:59pm Listener Robert:

That train was pre-wrecked.
Avatar 6:01pm cosmic matrix:

listener robert, what color is my name?
  6:01pm Fredericks:

What happened to Irwin?
  6:02pm Listener Robert:

Unless that's a philosophic Q, the answer is "red". Not the Q of what happened to Irwin, but of cosmic matrix's name.
Avatar 6:03pm Marcel M:

Reading the newsletter now.. aww.. I was looking forward to the original theme.
  6:06pm SeanG:

i didn't get the newsletter and I usually do.
Avatar 6:08pm Marcel M:

Check spam Sean, mine's gone there a few times before I told the google its not spam.
  6:08pm Tony:

SeanG: If you are using Gmail, check the Promotions folder. I found it there this week.
Avatar 6:10pm cosmic matrix:

@listener robert: so it is indeed true. so it is indeed true. it may be a metaphor as well as just plain true. how interesting!
Avatar 6:10pm cosmic matrix:

@listener robert: thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm PMD:

I didn't get newsletter either
  6:12pm SeanG:

cool thanks for the advice! I have an old hotmail account and it usually just appears there.
  6:12pm Listener Robert:

Come to think of it, WFMU used to have various straight-up interview shows that stopped being such or went off the station. Often it was the m.c. getting tired of the format.
Avatar 6:13pm Marcel M:

I thin true male feminists don't readily say they are feminists. They have to just apologize to all women and say they are not feminists and then apologize again.
  6:13pm Listener Robert:

If Tom Scharpling had kept doing straight-up interviews, I might've kept listening to his show.
Avatar 6:14pm herb.nyc:

Andy spoke about menstrual flow and economic class. can he clarify further, plz. i know that the World Bank is presently tuned in.
Avatar 6:17pm Marcel M:

I think the tampon tax should be based on flow level.
  6:17pm Listener Robert:

Just wanted to say that at the federal level, there is indeed a tax on medical devices that came in as part of the ACA (Obamacare).
  6:17pm Fredericks:

So Robert the answer is RED!
  6:19pm Listener Robert:

Irwin is a Red? I happen to know that's far from true. Unless it's meant "red" the way the kids mean these days, as in "red state".
  6:20pm Marcel M:

These are exactly the issues I was hoping to get into tonight.
  6:21pm dan:

Why does Andy keep referring to tampons as a "medical product"? Is menstruation a disease?
  6:21pm Fredericks:

What's the frequency, Robert?
  6:22pm Listener Robert:

Ken introduced the issue of whether a product was medical. And the frequency is Kenneth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Nick the Bard:

You can get 16 for less than $4, and these are the good ones, not the dollar store crap ones

  6:24pm Marcel M:

Menopause Ken... Menopause...
  6:24pm Fredericks:

Irwin = Red State? Okay, got it. Is he voting for Trump? No way, right, he's orange.
  6:26pm ScottC:

Andy never could " carry the 1"
  6:26pm Listener Robert:

So NY has an incentive for women not to go on constant-estrogen birth control pills. Could have policy implications!
  6:28pm Hugh:

Monkey wrench: some women don't use tampons
  6:29pm Listener Robert:

But aren't disposable pads taxable too?
  6:32pm Listener Robert:

Indeed, the maker of the extra-absorbent ones (with carboxymethyl cellulose) that had a higher frequency of causing toxic shock syndrome DID fund research on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Nick the Bard:

(oh geeze, line 2...first time caller that just stumbled on the show calling in...)
Avatar 6:33pm Raika:

AJ Jacob did the show twice.
  6:33pm Listener Robert:

Nick, that's comedy gold! Let them mine it.
  6:35pm Marcel M:

How not to get raped?? Wow, thats just wrong man...
  6:35pm Listener Robert:

No, DO date the rapist. They never foul their own nest, get it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Fox (Rā-chul):

That attitude to "not get raped" starts in public junior high and high schools, when women have dress codes to not "distract" the boys with their bodies.
  6:38pm Marcel M:

She'll tell all the feminists haha. She just might have a sense of humor Ken!!
Avatar 6:39pm northguineahills:

Fox, you're right. And that logic also goes back to bronze age paternalistic societies.
  6:40pm Frumple:

Raise the fines on rapists and eliminate the tampon tax. It all evens out and everyone benefits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm cory:

andy is a #Hero
Avatar 6:41pm Listener Julian:

This is going to be a disaster.
Avatar 6:42pm Listener Julian:

Ken, this is the thrill of live radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm cory:

no, this is going to be a trainwreck
Avatar 6:43pm herb.nyc:

since the caller mentioned the rape case at columbia university, and she carried a mattress as a protest / statement, i knew that the rapist (alleged?) filed suit against columbia. wiki says: ... that in so doing [columbia] damaged his college experience, emotional well-being, reputation and career prospects.[6][5]...
  6:44pm Listener Robert:

Could it be any worse than Bigot Ambush? Look how great that turned out!
Avatar 6:45pm glenn:

merle haggard has died, if nobody mentioned it earlier.
Avatar 6:46pm herb.nyc:

a pre-emptive apology. heh heh, ken signed a 7SD marathon premium cd for me, at my request, and wrote an apology for what andy says.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm cory:

"you have to talk or something"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm cory:

i wish i could see ken's death stare
  6:50pm Sam:

She sounds really cool. There won't be any problem. What was Ken so worried about?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Ask about VIAGRA!
Avatar 6:51pm Marcel M:

See! She has a sense of humor!
  6:51pm Sam:

Eliminate the condom tax!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm ifny:

Last July Canada took sales tax off of all tampons and menstrual products (aka so called feminine hygiene products). news.nationalpost.com...
Avatar 6:55pm Marcel M:

You know, it was more anti-feminist of Ken to assume that this lady was going to be uptight.
Avatar 6:55pm Listener Julian:

It was going so well...
  6:55pm Thomas:

I'm going to write Andy in for President.
Avatar 6:55pm herb.nyc:

i love this woman! i love her more than andy! (just like ken loves evan more than andy)
Avatar 6:56pm northguineahills:

nice, herb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm ifny:

Marcel: yes you are right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm ifny:

I should clarify: there is no federal tax on tampons etc in Canada since July. Some provinces have followed suit -- not sure if all of them have yet.
Avatar 6:57pm Listener Julian:

I only counted two terrible things that Andy said.
  6:58pm Listener Robert:

But it's small potatoes compared to the US FEDERAL medical device tax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm ifny:

What's the website for the petition?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Suggest the the tax savings be pledged to WFMU.
  7:00pm Listener Robert:

Fortunately the med device tax is suspended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Kat in Chicago:

Well, that could have been worse.
  7:02pm Frumple:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm ifny:

Thanks Frumple! Happy Feminism everybody!
Avatar 7:11pm herb.nyc:

i just signed the petition, and will alert others. i sure hope i don't offend any non-feminist friends of mine.
