DION IS GOD
  5:21pm
Cliff:

Dion is amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
Gaylord Fields:

@SeanG: Dion is a once-in-a-generation musical talent. His abilities are beyond most mortal performers. I sincerely think he can sing anything — and perfectly, and soulfully.
Avatar 5:24pm
geezerette:

Astonishing interpretation. As valid as the original.

totally Gaylord. He's got the feel! Also shout out to Monica, I remember when you used to play Paolo Conte! so good

Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: Hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm
Gaylord Fields:

@SeanG @Cliff @geezerette: I'm very pleased with the amount of love Dion is getting these days, especially on WFMU.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

If Jackie D had only written 'Don't Doubt Yourself' as by the Byrds - I would love her. There is also, however: media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...

Hiya! I was listening while doing some tidying. I'm done so here I am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Jackie DeShannon needs more support, so thanks for providing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm
Gaylord Fields:

@BadGuyZero: Enjoy your tidy surrounding along with the often less tidy sounds of WFMU.
Avatar 5:59pm
geezerette:

One more thing about Dion;it's rare that an artist has the strength of character to be willing to grow beyond their first success. Brave and admirable
Avatar 6:00pm
BadGuyZero:

The only thing I consider untidy at WFMU is the basement.

Hello Gaylord and fellow travelers-
captivated by the grooves. Suthep Daoduangmai Band was a gas, and loved that they were followed by Donald Byrd and Adrian Younge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Gaylord Fields:

@geezerette: Nail struck on head! Dion was a musical wanderer with an insatiable musical curiosity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Adrian in London:

Evening, enjoying this Birgit Lystager track. Sounds pretty jet set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
Irene Trudel:

Birgit has a little Dionne Warwick in her soul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Coltrane & God are pretty tight - was my understanding...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
dale:

ah, the part of the weekend when i'm delightfully exhausted and enjoying a libation and the sun is finally smiling down and i'm listening to exceptional music....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Irene Trudel: She certainly does have a lot of Dionne Warwick in her DNA. A few songs on this album are uncannily Dionne/Burt/Hal-inspired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
Gaylord Fields:

@dale: You flatter with those lovely sentiments.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: I'm feeling it, too. Isn't that nice?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Ken From Hyde Park: That makes me happy (and not just that you're baking to a porno soundtrack).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
melinda:

This Hollies tune is beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
Gaylord Fields:

@glenn: I'm pleased that this show is being used as a soundtrack to various Sunday activities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm

wow - that butterfly song was worth the price of admission.

It says to whip the batter and I'm all confused now.

Cooh John:

Hey all. Time to wash the floors and catch some Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I loves Hollies & 60sPsych...& I don't know that album yet...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Gaylord Fields:

@melinda @dale: "Butterfly" is so, so precious. I have to be careful where to slot it in a playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Cooh John: I'll add that to the list of things this show is the soundtrack to.
  6:28pm
IFisher:

Thank you for the Ligeti! He can alter a state (or clear the room, depending on your view) like no other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm
Gaylord Fields:

@IFisher: I hope it was the former (or that it only helped to clean a room, as in the case of Cooh John).
  6:34pm
IFisher:

I Love Ligeti - really runs the gamut of emotional experiences.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
melinda:

Interesting song title. Lucy Grealy wrote a memoir I've intended to read for years but haven't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: I can't recommend your reading her memoir strongly enough. I was pretty decently acquainted with Lucy — even had her on my show over 15 years ago (just before WFMU began archiving, unfortunately).
Avatar 6:38pm
geezerette:

Always a beautiful show Gaylord, smoke & mirrors indeed but never sleight of ear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Gaylord Fields:

@geezerette: There you go with the poetics again! Thanks once again for your eloquence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Adrian in London:

@Melinda And Ann Patchett wrote a book about Lucy. I read that one but not Lucy's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
melinda:

@Gaylord: too bad there's no archive! I heard of her when I was at U of Iowa and a friend of mine was in the writing program with her. I've had the book title written on a little slip of paper for years, must get on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Adrian in London: Ann Patchett's book is a good complement. You really should read Lucy's as well to get a fuller picture.
Avatar 6:52pm
BadGuyZero:

Quite the groovy little Verve set-within-a-set going on here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: If you email me offlist, I can share a bit more about Lucy Grealy.

And this Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!
  6:53pm
P-90:

Coltrane & Hartman, Dion, Schifrin, Hollies, Ligeti, etc.: this has really been an "all-star" outing! Discretion and decorum prevent me from mentioning specifically what today's show was a soundtrack for chez moi, but it's very much appreciated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm
melinda:

I'll do that Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Explorer's Room' exposes 'Exotica' - but this track is both retro-kitsch & genuinely sonically intriguing. & now - a Tomorrow song I don't know !
  6:56pm
P-90:

and: Tomorrow! They're talking about a reunion album/tour...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Here's this season's football schedule, Gaylord. www.giants.com... Thanks for the show. I think Homer Simpson had this quote: "Mmmm....erotic muffins!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...not that what ER plays isn't - it's just how it does both @ once & intentionally
...it's fun to try to verbalize what Music does - like playing Twister, you get tangled a lot...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm
Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, everyone, for listening, commenting, and being great guests!
  6:58pm

Thanks Gaylord :D

Wow Gaylord, this is completely out of the blue, but I was just looking for something chill to listen to at work and rediscovered this amazing Barış Manço song. I feel like it was used in a soundtrack but I might be mistaken from having heard it so many times before... either way... excellent. Peace!
