Hey ho, Doug, Gary, and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Doug Schulkind:

'Lo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Doug Schulkind:

LJFW makes me think of LMFAO. Is that so terrible?
Avatar 6:00pm ndbob:

evening Doug, Gary, James et al
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:01pm listener james from westwood:

Heya ndbob!
@Doug: It is quite excellent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, ndbob!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:05pm listener james from westwood:

Happy 45th, Republic of Sierra Leone!
Avatar 6:07pm ndbob:

I had an online friend from Sierra Leone years ago - she went back there and I lost touch with her.
  6:08pm Mr C:

o sole mio, and a few nice things.
Avatar 6:08pm northguineahills:

You should team up w/ Lamin when he dj's again for WFMU, as he's from Sierre Leone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

I have some ties in my closet older than Sierra Leone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Welcome welcome, Mr C and northguineahills!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm JP from KC:

Hey, Y'all! Some sweet calypso going on here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Doug Schulkind:

I had to edit down this Dr. Oloh track. It is the opening 8+ minutes of a 81-minute medley that SCALDS!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:11pm listener james from westwood:

@ngh: Lamin! Would love to have him back on the air, FM or stream-wise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Mike East:

Hey Doug and everybody...glad to have some soul saving sounds right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Doug Schulkind:

@JP from KC
Good ears on you! There is much in common between Calypso and other Caribbean sounds and Sierra Leone's goombay music. Surely it is the product of both having been colonized by the Brits.

Lost track of Lamin. It would be stupendous to hear him on the air again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Doug Schulkind:

I love the cacophony of the bells and metallic percussion on this track.
Avatar 6:20pm ndbob:

nice set here Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Doug Schulkind:

More nice to come, ndbob!
Avatar 6:20pm Flash Strap:

heya Doug! and all!
Avatar 6:21pm ndbob:

I remember Buying an S.E, Rogie LP decades ago at Tower records in DC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm JP from KC:

Thanks, Doug! I've had no exposure to goombay that I know of, but now that you mention it, I can hear what seems to be a fusion of that "colonial sound" you speak of, and the more percussive, earthy sounds more associated with Central-African tribal music, particularly on that Oloh track. It's wonderful!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:22pm listener james from westwood:

In addition to the 81-min. track, I can only imagine isolating only an hour of other Sierra Leone tracks must've been tough. Could easily have been a Friday 3-hour extravaganza!
Avatar 6:22pm Flash Strap:

oh man i was just this second putting this week's show together and was thinking of playing an SE Rogie track... then i remembered you were on and hey you're playing him! so good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Please don't let that (this) stop you, Brother Flash. More S.E. Rogie means more love.

@Listener James FW
Leaving tracks on the cutting room floor is the hardest part. It has always been thus.
Avatar 6:27pm Flash Strap:

words to live by
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Gary:

Love the refugee song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Doug Schulkind:

@Flash Strap
Sounds to love by.

Whelp, there will be no new show launching this Thursday evening as my scheduled test of the new show's hook-up has been scuttled. We are now planning big-time for an April 28 debut!
Avatar 6:31pm northguineahills:

I've never heard the Refugee All-Stars, but knew it was them, just by reading about them 10 years ago.
Avatar 6:31pm Flash Strap:

oh man i hate that i won't be there to layup blue flame with a royal lead-in

Refugee Song made my day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Doug Schulkind:

@Flash
Was hoping to get the 1st Cool Blue Flaming this week. Oh wells.

@NGH
There was quite a NPR-style roll-out for the Refugee All Stars in 2006. A bit precious for my tastes, but the music is moving and wonderful.
Avatar 6:37pm northguineahills:

I gotta go, Doug, Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Have a lovely evening, northguineauhills.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:40pm listener james from westwood:

Pino & gang sound like they're having a grand old time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Mike East:

Man, I remember that...I can't believe that was ten years ago. What the hell, man?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Doug Schulkind:

I hope all my New Yorks had a happy Election Day. However passionate you are for your candidate, remember that either will do just fine thank you in the general election, especially considering the alternatives.
Avatar 6:42pm ndbob:

@Doug - indeed - and I do have my strong preference
Avatar 6:43pm northguineahills:

Unfortunately, I'm non-party affiliated, so, I can't vote in the primary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Doug Schulkind:

I am assuming that I will vote for one candidate in the primary and the other in the general, and I am completely okay with that. And I would be okay to do it the other way around, too. For very different reasons, but still okay.

@NGH
You will always be allowed to vote for the Drummersome Party. No photo ID required.
Avatar 6:49pm ndbob:

and I'm assuming I will vote for the same candidate in both
  6:49pm DL in LA:

Some hella grooves on this show! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Doug Schulkind:

Killa DL LA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Doug Schulkind:

I don't suppose I could coerce one of you to turn today's playlist art into a GIF of the fellow doing jumping jacks? In the next 9 minutes? No? Any takers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Doug Schulkind:

I love how it sounds like Bunny Mack is saying "meshugah" here. Maybe he's a secret Jewish socialist from Brooklyn!
Avatar 6:53pm ndbob:

Feel the Bunny Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Gary:

I can't wait for the general election and for this whole shit show to be over
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:53pm listener james from westwood:

This is one of those nights when I assume they have medical personnel handy in case WNYC's Brian Lehrer is overcome with data and election-related syncope strikes.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:54pm listener james from westwood:

Gary, agreed. But I've got some awful news for you about the year 2020.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Doug Schulkind:

@ndbob
I should've played this on Easter.
Avatar 6:55pm ndbob:

@Doug Indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Doug Schulkind:

@Gary
It has been a terrifying shitshow, but I feel it is performing a vital civic service. Sunlight is the greatest cure and all. Bring the the horrible out into the light.
Avatar 6:56pm ndbob:

right Doug
Avatar 6:58pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Mike East:

yes, very excellent...a bit sad its over. Thanks for the music Doug, and Sierra Leone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Doug Schulkind:

And it will be, um, entertaining to see certain of our fellow citizens frothing about Hillary being from Kenya.

In December 2012, I made a prediction in the comments to my radio show. Read it at 6:43pm here: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Doug Schulkind:

This is what I predicted:

Here is my prediction: Hillary Clinton will win the presidency with the largest landslide in U.S. history. Mark it down.
Avatar 7:00pm ndbob:

hopefully you will be right
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:02pm listener james from westwood:

Honestly have no clue re: November. I'm like Muad'dib in "Dune" after his prescience craps out. Someone get me to the Water of Life!
Thanks mightily, Doug! That gent up top is saying, "What a show!"
Avatar 7:03pm Flash Strap:

great show doug, loved it
