Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from April 26, 2016 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Faust  Live at WFMU's Monty Hall 3/28/16   Favoriting     In case you weren't able to attend, Brian Turner's program put together a night at WFMU's Monty Hall on March 28th headlined by experimental rock legends faUST, and he'll be airing the full set on his program today at 4PM ET along with streaming video document of this amazing show, right off of wfmu.org's homepage. "There is no group more mythical than Faust", said Julian Cope, and indeed, since 1971 the ensemble has created some revolutionary, inventive sounds that helped to firmly establish a German identity in the realm of psychedelic rock. Still active, the band headlined WFMU Fest at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in 2009, and on this return to the states, founders Jean-Herve Peron and Zappi Diermeier are joined for this set by Maxime Manac'h, Ysanne Spevack, and Robert Pepper. After the vidcast Brian will re-air his 2009 interview with Peron. Severe thanks going out to Ruth Polduk, Jeanne-Marie Varin, Regina Greene, and the astounding engineering crew: Scott Konzelmann, Glenn Luttman, Mark Koch, Ernie Indridat, UPDATE: Watch the video in its entirety at WFMU's Vimeo page!    1:04:28 (Pop-up)

That sounds like a pretty standard take on his death, @Cecile, though the devil is probably in the details. Are you sure you don't want to add in something about baby-eating lizard men from Uranus trying to drain out Prince's power of funk to use it to demagnetize the Earth's poles?

when you take stuff like Percoset, you probably have serious pain. When your joints might be degenerating because your body is attacking itself, you probably have a lot of pain. When you give up your med regimen because you think you feel or you think you know better, you probably have a lot of pain in the aftermath. Plus, what was it?4? prescriptions in 24 hours should have never been filled. He should have stayed in the hospital for a couple of days. The what-ifs are infuriating.

wow, i was not aware that Prince was vegan (DAMN i love & miss him even more now)
and yeah, you gotta watch your nutrition/health
even before i was vegetarian, then vegan -- i took supplements, b/c often one does not get sufficient nutrition from the food we consume, especially nowadays . . .
ironically enough, many vegans are super-aware of maintaining the proverbial healthy/balanced diet, and what nutrients they may NOT be getting from food, simply as a by-product of having to look at food labels all the time . . .
not all vegans, though -- there are plenty out there who are totally into junk food, and far from "healthy"
Avatar 4:23pm
slugluv1313:

working too, cannot really watch, but love hearing this again!!!!!
  4:24pm
VomitFlowers:

Cranking faster is like playing a bow faster on a violin. The wheel is rosined like a bow, there are drone strings that can be engaged or disengaged (on fancy models like this one), then there are melody strings called chanterelles, that are played via keys that push small pieces of wood against them changing the pitch. There is also a piece of wood near the handle called the chien that controls the buzzing bridge.

Prince loved his junk food.

  4:29pm

Thanks, Vomit F, makes sense. So as with a straight bowed instrument, the speed of bowing doesn't affect pitch, but could affect volume?
Avatar 4:30pm
Cecile:

I wrote about Faust for NPR! back in the day:
www.npr.org...
  4:32pm
VomitFlowers:

Listener Robert - yes exactly, and if the buzzing bridge is engaged, the speed & force of cranking can trigger the buzzing, which can be used to play rhythms with your crank hand and melodies with your right. Or the inverse if you are a lefty/proper brained ;)
