he probably saw what Bowie pulled off and said "i can go one further!"
...he's probably relaxing and laughing on some greek or polynesian island, which he owns.
@ceolacanth: ditto.
It's like the opposite of that Nick Cave/RHCP meme: I'm forever near a radio asking what is this amazing music and the answer is always Prince.
Strangely, was just really getting into his music in the last couple of years.
i guess i liked him then got bored and stopped paying attention - while he kept on creating. i did the same thing with Bowie. in both cases i've got albums (maybe 7-8 Prince & 17 Bowie) , but all the earliest commercially available ones. nothing newer and no bootlegs.
In my case, I was an idiot punk/industrial/indy rock snob and when Prince became huge, I just sort of filtered him out, even though I have a vivid memory of actually being blown away when I first ever heard him.
Rich, i don't know if you were a snob! i mean - i'm hearing all this material since he left, and i have an appreciation that i didn't have to quite this degree...i knew he was a Great, but without caring for most of his music. still i don't like all the stuff i didn't like before. the only difference is now i'm listening to different aspects of it; and maybe more in proper context, having learned some about the history now. i always wished his music was more guitar based. i still wish that!
...i don't think i'm a snob -at least in Prince's case!
-i doubt you were either.

Maybe we didn't lose him. Maybe he's just misplaced.
