Welcome back Mike!

Mike VL:

Hello Fred! I was hoping you'd be here...great to see you.
Avatar 6:41am
Mike VL:

Anybody going to the Record Fair??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46am
fred:

I'm not going, though I sure would like to.
I had no idea you were filling in before Jonathan announced it. A pleasant and much too rare surprise. I hope you'll cut that rarity factor. Any plan to come back with a regular show?
Avatar 6:51am
Mike VL:

Thanks Fred. I appreciate that, but I just can't do it weekly. I will try to fill in more than my usual 2-4 a year though. How are things with you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58am
fred:

Let's just say I'd rather not talk about it. Hearing your show is one of the rare good things to happen in the past 10 days
Avatar 7:00am
Mike VL:

Oh no. Sorry to hear that. Well, now I REALLY have to step it up for the next 2 hours!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am
Sem Chumbo:

Good morning, Mike, and fred. Lurking the past hour and loving what you're doing.
Thanks, makes month-end accounting suffer-able.
  7:06am
Rob:

Hello Mike! What was the instrumental "music behind the DJ" played between Boa Constrictor and The New Tweedy Bros.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08am
fred:

Good morning Sem, making accounting bearable is quite a feat.
Mike, just be yourself, that's the point of your show.
Avatar 7:10am
Mike VL:

Hey Rob. It was Bernard Fevre... Pendulum is the track. Thanks for saying hi.
Avatar 7:11am
Mike VL:

Thanks Fred...you're right. Which "self" is always the problem for me though! As long as I know there is one person enjoying it, then I'm ok.
  7:14am
Rob:

Thanks! It's a sunny day in London and your set is great yoga music!

It's that fella w/ the Shaman icon plays the kewl stuff!
Great to be in such excellent company - youze guys. Power to you fred. May we someday live in not such interesting times...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15am
fred:

Mike, that's one more reason why you should do more shows: that would lessen the stakes for the fight between your many selves
Avatar 7:16am
Mike VL:

Rabbit! Hi!
Avatar 7:17am
Mike VL:

Yes, Fred...very true. When I did a weekly 3-6 am I could really just indulge in my whims.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20am
Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, RevRab. Good to see you.
Mike, fred offers some sage advice re: our apparently innumerable and therefore, finally, unknowable *selves* :-)
  7:25am
Mark R:

This Donald Byrd track is really groovy. It's great to hear something from in between the old-school post-bop Byrd and the later, IMO overly-commercial Blackbyrds stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...we could get rid of all our furniture & become a traveling band - The Sells of our Former Shelves...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26am
fred:

@RRN63: Bad sucks, but is still better than boredom. I initially wrote "bad trumps boring", but for some reason that verb makes me nauseous
Avatar 7:32am
Mike VL:

Mark R - Yes! I feel the exact same way about the Blackbyrds stuff and was always slightly disappointing with Electric Byrd. This is my favorite of his. He really stretches and lets the other guys do so as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36am
fred:

The mark of a great band leader is making the others better. That requires leaving them room, even if they're not comfortable with it. Joe McPhee is a master at that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am
fred:

Versailles? That's so funny. This sounds like a punk sea shanty, and Versailles is such an uptight ultra-conservative city
Avatar 8:10am
Mike VL:

Yeah, I think the lyrics are about WWI or something.
  8:11am
Will:

Always give props to the DJ who plays Van der Graaf Generator (and makes it fit in!).

Let them eat Punk.

love this susan christie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am
fred:

Yeah, the treaty of Versailles basically turned WWI into WWII. But I know the place quite well (a college-time girlfriend lived nearby, and I worked for years in the erea) and the contrast is hilarious
  8:19am
Nate K:

Hi Mike, Sounds great!
Avatar 8:22am
Mike VL:

Hey Nate, thanks for letting me sit in for a bit! Good luck at the record fair my friend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23am
fred:

Hey Nate, you sure have great taste in choosing people to fill in for you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am
dale:

great hippy set of music
Avatar 8:28am
Mike VL:

Speaking of such things...Nate K will be talking to Jesse Jarnow about his new book on Psychedlic America - "Heads", next week. Check it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

In this timeslot (Nate's show)?
Avatar 8:31am
Mike VL:

Yes sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
fred:

Loophole city... A DJ isn't allowed to talk about his other endeavors on his show, but another's fine. That's a good thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

RulesShmules. Tell us about the Psychedelic book!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am
fred:

@RRN63: Tune in next week! Will it be live or pre-recorded? Jesse can handle the early hour, but two days straight?

smokin track!!
