even love it to death is pretty poor sounding. eventually i decided to add to my old, scratchy copy a brand new lp. it didn't sound much better.
it became a rare instance of me getting a remastered cd for sound quality.

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made --
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe --
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade.
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32am

yes, i was pretty late getting into hawkwind. the first hawkwind i heard was "the hawklords", which i kind of liked, but not enough to seek further.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34am

'got the frankenchrist poster though. i guess i was into punkrock at the right time. i could make a few bucks - and i should. i wont always have a place to store all this stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37am
pacific standard simon:

"The Hawklords" fits into the mid-to-late-70s-Hawkwind system of putting out albums that are about half interesting. Maybe 10% brilliant. There's a good Hawklords live album out there.

The first Soft Machine album had a rotating insert that revealed different things. That got moldy in the basement, too. Led Zeppelin stole the idea, 3 years later, for Led Zeppelin III (just like they stole everything else.)

Zacron, real name Richard Drew, best known as the sleeve designer for Led Zeppelin III died earlier this year, but strangely, his estranged family only heard about the news 6 months later. Zacron was born in Sutton, Surrey in 1943, and studied with Eric Clapton and members of the Yardbirds at Kingston College of Art between 1957-60. During this time he met fellow art student Jimmy Page and the pair reconnected in 1969 when Zacron was commissioned to do the sleeve for III. The artist took four months to complete the distinctive sleeve, featuring a rotating cardboard disc that revealed different images through holes in the sleeve as it was turned. The idea originated with Jimmy Page (based on a crop rotation volvelle) but the guitarist has since commented that he thought the finished product “very teeny-bopperish”.
