I really like your show Mr. Joe McGasko, but now that I've heard that intro quite a few times, well, HHHMMMMMMMM.......timed it.......
I have really have mostly positives otherwise!
Thank you.!!
Yes yes Joe...you are right to be cautious...to prevent what is called crazing, which are small cracks developing in plastics from exposure to improper or non compatible solvents, test on an expendable CD. Also beware of the circumference of the disk, which is a seal between the two halves of the thing. Test on an expendable one! Goo Gone will surely cause crazing in my opinion.
I am an industrial designer, and for a time worked for a guy in Mount Vernon building CD mastering machines, from the glass masters right thru the pressings. He even had a digital to tape studio...neat stuff.
i feel like i too had a cup of coffee and a bong hit just now

Can someone recommend some software to listen to this great radio? I've listened to some songs and now Launderette (excerpt)" by Vivien Goldman stuck and some parts of it freeze sometimes, and the song starts over and over again. I have a stable internet connection. What to do?(
Scott Williams with the solution: Play vinyl whenever possible. TO WFMU DJS: FINGERPRINTS ALSO AFFECT CD PLAY NOT JUST VINYL SO STOP HANDLING THEM LIKE THEY ARE PLATES.

Ike, I had a similar reaction. I thought joe was going to talk over it, cos that's my wfmu reference for this tracks info!
That Sweet Jane was great.
(CD's do get dirty and scratch, as we've noted).
As for Software for listening to FMU on line, is it for a phone? I usually use the pop up (it locks up periodically), for my phone use Neutron (it's an Android phone), haven't had playback issues with it and it sounds better than the direct link on the app (I go to the site and play the 128k MP3).

No, I'm on PC, but thanks for your reply, I was concerned about my android too. Listening to it using pop up is not the best options, but I will use it for the time being, thank you!
I'll plug the use of Tunein Radio for WFMU. It works great for me, and I spent months working with them to get our listings and shcedule beaten into some kind of shape.
My office PC only has Windows Media Player, and I can't add anything to the PC (the player won't play the 128 files). Pretty much leaves me with the pop-up here. At home the player I like is JRiver, though I mostly stream from an iPad to a Bluetooth speaker (DeepBlue2) (more geekiness...)
The pop-up player is pretty good, especially for archives. I'm stuck with the bloated iTunes at work, which is why I don't listen as much as I used to from there
i generally use the pop-up for fmu, including the archives. OZ has an embedded player, too. most other stations i use TuneIn. if a station HAS a player i use it until it kicks out, then i switch to tune-in. only issue i have is that Firefox kicks me off the internet now and then and i have to reboot the whole shebang. the Ipod has been relegated to the sewing room stereo system.
MattZ, no. i do consider desire his last tolerable album, but i only like a few tracks on it. (just the year prior he did blood on the tracks so there was still hope, after all.)
coelacanth- i dont know, it just sounds like a giant cheesefest to me. I like cheesefests as much as the next guy, but desire never worked for me. And I think there are plenty of tolerable albums post-Desire, but probably not until Oh Mercy. I know that's a cliche at this point, but if you subscribe to the general theory, then I stop at BOTT, not Desire. Anyway, carry on everyone.
Matt, we're nearly on the same page. i did use the word "tolerable"! -and i know that could be because of familiarity, as i bought it upon release. i was quite young and every album was an investment, so i tried hard to like it (+ there was lots of hype about it at the time.)
looking at the track list now, i don't even recognise most of them.
i still like "isis" though.
paul, i can't say i know "infidels". i've heard it, and didn't like it at that time; but things change. i've never heard "oh mercy" either. i'd thoroughly lost interest in Dylan by then. who knows? maybe i'd like one or both of them now.
A few years ago, my wire transfer to the station was held up because I had bought a record from Yair Yona's band. If that's security, we"re in deep shit
Richard Thompson did a nice guest spot on the Joan Baez Public TV tribute/fund raiser, played some nice acoustic lead and Joan did one of his songs with him (She never Could Resist a Winding Road, if I remember correctly)
steeleye span played as intro to procol harem way back in the early 70s in cleveland. I WAS THERE!! been a fan ever since. 3 encores they did, compared to PH's one
I also saw Jackson Browne on the show, as well as Paul Simon (who has lost a step, at least on the show, seemed to play a step behind everyone), Judy Collins was also on.
paul, it's decided! i lost track of Bowie during a phase that i disliked; only to decide -2 days before he died - that i need to check out some of his stuff that i'd ignored all those years.
