Great Wolf!
Avatar 2:19pm Mailman Tom:

If you listen closely to this Howlin' Wolf song, you can hear him make a small mistake in the vocal delivery.
Avatar 2:19pm Nutley Sam:

Matt, if Nokie could hear he would love that song but I would make him listen to the Jack Benny radio show. Then he would ask me if I was in the Piggies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Matt F:

Then you would say no and play him the Piggies and he would wish he were deaf.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Matt F:

Sam, that's on Abbey Road, right?
  2:33pm Zev:

See, Matt sure knows his Doors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Alex In Illinois:

I had a copy of this record that I got from the back of a Honeycomb cereal box!
Avatar 2:35pm Nutley Sam:

Zev, would you please set him straight?!
  2:35pm Zev:

(BTW Matt. from sunny downtown Silver Spring MD doing 12x7 strike duty for VZ, thanks for helping me keep my sanity.

by not playing the Doors.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Lewis:

is it singles going steady this week? It has been that sort of fortnight...
Avatar 2:36pm Nutley Sam:

Oof Zev, that sounds truly hellish
  2:37pm Zev:

Avatar 2:37pm Nutley Sam:

That Syndicate of Sound song always reminds me of "Wait and See" by the Beau Brummelstones
Avatar 2:38pm Dominick:

Keep the faith Zev!
  2:41pm daveblakneymetalworks:

i'm back in the woburn groove
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm drr:

aw yeah, that Wilbert Harrison sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Alex In Illinois:

I was referring to Bang-Shang-a-Lang by the Archies. There was a time when Archies records were available from Honeycomb Cereal boxes. You would see the circle, and you would cut a long the dotted line, and then punch the hole in it, and you would have a cardboard record to play. Sugar Pops had them too, but all of the songs were by the "Sugar Bears". Before you would get tired of the record, the humidity would change and the cardboard record would warp, with two opposing sides bending upwards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Melissa Jean:

*Dave wave*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Alex In Illinois:

I meant "two opposing edges bending upwards".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm drr:

I remember peeling one of those cereal box records off the cardboard in pieces to see if we could lay it on a regular record and get the record player to do a kind of mashup.
Avatar 2:46pm geezerette:

Coal Mine, a perfect record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Webhamster Henry:

The Cereal box section of WFMU/MAC's Flexi Museum:
  2:49pm daveblakneymetalworks:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Artie Haywire:

Punching that center hole correctly was really tricky, and critical to avoiding crazy playback speed variations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Alex In Illinois:

Thanks Webmaster Henry! That is exactly them! I forgot about the Bobby Sherman ones, and I don't recall where they came from, but I know we had one of those too. My sister was 4 years old at the time, and like Bobby Sherman. I think I recall a Sugar Bears record sounding a lot like a Bobby Sherman record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Parq:

Henry, Mac's collection is exactly what I thought of, too, when I saw Alex's post. I didn't know it had been digitized. This changes everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Stevel:

Vibrators next? Just a thought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks! MAC and I put together the Flexi museum a long time ago! Sometime in the next few months, we'll meet to update it, because somehow Flexi/Oddity disks tend to migrate to MAC. It's one of those leftovers from the early online days of WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Webhamster Henry:

Hers's some nearly related info: the man who voiced Sugar Bear, Gerry Matthews, has a weird museum of his on in Wall Walla, WA. So you got yer museum, and yer Sugar Bear.
  3:19pm Zev:

Sounds like more Doors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Webhamster Henry:

When "If I Fell" came out, I didn't know it was the Beatles, it sounded so different. When I found out, that's when I realized they had taken over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Matt F:

Yup! Their early stuff is the best!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Matt F:

Meaning the Doors, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Parq:

Read a play once where the actors notes called on them to prepare for the performance by, among many other things, thinking about the look on Ringo's face after they tease him and he sits down to the drums on "If" in "Hard Day's".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm drr:

I'm pretty sure the record we destroyed in our mashup attempt was that spooky one on the bottom left: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 3:45pm geezerette:

Their post-Beatles work, especially by Lennon and Harrison,is extraordinary. They allowed themselves to grow and I respect that.
Avatar 3:46pm geezerette:

Digging the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Matt F:

thank you!
Avatar 3:49pm ndbob:

excellent show Matt!
Avatar 3:50pm geezerette:

@Parq: Funny story, love to know what play that was.

'Scuse me,gotta take a swoon break for Arthur Alexander.
  3:50pm daveblakneymetalworks:

this show stinks! see ya next week

Avatar 3:54pm ndbob:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Matt F:

Thanks everybody! I look forward to wasting two more hours of your time next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm imagining Matt F. sitting at the turntable with a few of those little boxes of 7" records, covered in textured vinyl, with the little clasp on them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Melissa Jean:

awww Mister Mimms, thankya MF!
