Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
@Gaylord - problem with this station is that it's never boring.
@Sem - spent the weekend at home getting organised for the big trip. Mostly spent online buying crap I need. Take off June 3rd.

sure. i just love the way you mix the soundtrack stuff with other music. i'm quite a soundtrack hound and it is great to hear this stuff the way you frame it, its a whole new way to hear it
@bill: Thanks! You can tell I'm a big soundtrack aficionado as well, but I do like to mix it in sets rather than play blocks of it. Rich Hazleton's show on Friday nights also has a strong soundtrack component to it.
How very exciting, Stanley. Never considered the Far East---you travel like an Aussie;-O
5:24pm
bill:
well, i guess there is sort of this whole nexus where jazz and 60's pop and easy listening and film scores meet--you kind of sold me on that idea. i actually wanted my listening to sound more like your show---so i bought a thousand fucking soundtracks in 5 months
Sem - it's only because I've been invited to a wedding. over there. But my trips just last a couple a weeks whereas an Aussie's away for at least a year before returning home.
this is a lovely moment of zen. had to change my water pump and fan clutch yesterday, get supplies for a painting job this morning and mow all my lawn this afternoon. just sitting down with a cocktail now and this music is perfection.
(...being in Opposition, ♂Mars will rise as the Sun sets, & thus visible all night going from horizon to horizon - & ♄Saturn will be nearby - as will Antares the fixed star, the Heart of the constellation Scorpius, reddish as is ♂Mars...)
@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Story goes that Colin felt that Caroline put her acting career before their relationship. He was being a very silly man, but we got a gorgeous song out of it.
@Adrian in London: I saw Gwenno perform this past week, and she was superb! Afterwards, she even signed a Pipettes record someone put in front of her without complaint.
heard Jarre interviewed on Devons show. Always imagined him as some kind of egomaniac, maybe based on his grandiose productions maybe but he was totally cool down to earth etc
@Gaylord Good for her. I've got some Pipettes badges (buttons) somewhere that a friend of theirs gave me at a gig at some point. Their "We Are The Pipettes" song was good fun.
geezerette: setback at rehab, mostly because I pushed too hard and my leg this weekend hasn't been able to push hard that I could two days ago. Otherwise, I'm slowly getting better, and I'm assuming that tomorrow I can move forward again. Thanks!

- epic !
A fairly knowledgable & worldly friend of the guy whose coattails I always rode for all things Jazz - told me about tripping - & seeing the Arkestra @ close range in a small NYC club. He recounted how they were in full theatrical garb - & did the entire History of Jazz right in his face...
