Loved Diamond Head, even when I despised "progressive" rock (but of course I loved Eno, and by extension Manzanera, because I was an adolescent nerd). (Oh, of course I'm still a nerd.)

i was with station mgr Ken at a chipotle in manhattan. as we talked, he stopped, then said "i think this is The Liminanas playing". that's the band with compilation and EFDavies' voice is on it?

Everybody else: Thanks for listening and commenting. Just getting settled in here but I'll try to engage in some chatting soon.

Hello DJ PB. Can't stay as I must leave for work so I will not request any Ron House. I did finally get to see him with TJSA recently. He played "Sympathy for the Devil" as a Homage to the Republican convention. He kept shouting "Cleveland, July" and said it was a date with the devil. @RRN63: WFMU allows for the unique individual. What a concept.

RevRab: if you search for "radio freeform" on google, you can come up with a surprising robust list, with internet radio. I know, because I had to, sitting here in rehab, bored
Avatar 7:33pm
herb.nyc:

since you mention Internet Radio, Scraps, i just started dvd of Silicon Valley, season 2. we meet a character who made $1.2billion because he "put radio onto the internet". (i hope rehab goes well)
Avatar 7:34pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Scraps: Actually, there are many Webio stations~streams of interest - & I listen to Podcasts when I'm not @ home. Nevertheless - so much Mainstream Culture is pure ubiquitous poo - & here's one Station so very top-loaded w/ too much Goodness...

Also, this:

The urls are no good, but most of the internet radio stations are still there, and googlable.

@RevRabbit - will civilization survive 500 years, or will climate change (or a nuke) kill us? and how will "swag for life" people be compensated? that's exactly why i didn't choose this pay-option.
Avatar 7:41pm
herb.nyc:

if band names are indicative of quality, well then this show is a winner. though if the bands were named A, B, C..., show is still a winner. because it's always the song, not the singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
melinda:

@herb: do you recommend Silicon Valley?
Avatar 7:42pm

I still haven't found a good modern jazz or modern classical station. Wish more of FMU did that, too.

JakeGould:

@ScrapsdeSelby: Have you tried WBGO? Newark-based station that is on 88.3FM on the dial. They veer towards predictable jazz, but they are not as bad as many NPR stations I have heard. I like them since they play Milt Jackson.
  7:45pm
JakeGould:

@BGZ: Ayih!!!!
  7:46pm
Peter in Seattle/NYC native:

WBGO is pretty good for the most part. The music can be quite purist in the hard bop realm, particularly in the late evenings.

Wow Paul! You're great! This is a great set. I got hooked after I awoke from a cold sweat nap and heard Desert Storm's New Trition . . . I mean really? Hey Drag City.

Good continuous Classical Streams is hard. They tend towards the unadventurous, altho' there are good Bach/Early specializers. There is Bethany's show Archived : wfmu.org...

Jake: I'll try them, assuming they have an internet feed. Though I'm mostly wanting to lean against predictability.

There are a lot of Jazz streams. WWOZ N'Orleans is a great general Jazz & Heritage station - & FMU's sister station kinda.
TSF Jazz Paris is good general Jazz : tsfjazz.ice.infomaniak.ch...
This Swiss stream is good for Modern : stream2140.init7.net
'Radio Caprice' is some thing out of Russia I gather (?) that has any number of streams for very specific Genres - like this for Hard Bop: 79.111.14.76

NEW ALLIANCE made me think of SST, which made me think of JOE CARDUCCI. and i've seen him in documentaries & really should listen more. like WFMU May 25, 2016: The Systematic Special
Joe Carducci pays another visit to FMU, this time to co-host w/ special guest Joseph Pope. - The author and former SST Records partner invited along Joe Pope (of 80s SF band Angst/ former head of Systematic Record Distribution) to revisit the business history of independent record distribution circa 1978-1988. They tell the history of that era's music from the business side, and play four hours of music. NOTE: this is a 4 hour program, and is best enjoyed over a six pack and a page open to discogs. wfmu.org...
