great song, which i learned via Yung Wu. thanks. oh, hiya.

hi Paul & people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Scraps deSelby:

Loved Diamond Head, even when I despised "progressive" rock (but of course I loved Eno, and by extension Manzanera, because I was an adolescent nerd). (Oh, of course I'm still a nerd.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Scraps deSelby:

From the first three songs, I get the feeling I'm going to like this three hours....
Avatar 7:12pm herb.nyc:

i was with station mgr Ken at a chipotle in manhattan. as we talked, he stopped, then said "i think this is The Liminanas playing". that's the band with compilation and EFDavies' voice is on it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm DJ PB:

Herb: I first heard it from Yung Wu too!

Everybody else: Thanks for listening and commenting. Just getting settled in here but I'll try to engage in some chatting soon.
Avatar 7:19pm herb.nyc:

well then, "Yung Wu and anyone that looks like you!", as my friend George Carlin would say

...so many FMU-Js...each different, all so great...how can it???...& most of the rest of the world saturated in blah...how is?? how can it??...grumbbey gurgle...grrrrrblle...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Cooh John:

Hello DJ PB. Can't stay as I must leave for work so I will not request any Ron House. I did finally get to see him with TJSA recently. He played "Sympathy for the Devil" as a Homage to the Republican convention. He kept shouting "Cleveland, July" and said it was a date with the devil. @RRN63: WFMU allows for the unique individual. What a concept.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Scraps deSelby:

RevRab: if you search for "radio freeform" on google, you can come up with a surprising robust list, with internet radio. I know, because I had to, sitting here in rehab, bored
Avatar 7:33pm herb.nyc:

since you mention Internet Radio, Scraps, i just started dvd of Silicon Valley, season 2. we meet a character who made $1.2billion because he "put radio onto the internet". (i hope rehab goes well)
Avatar 7:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Scraps: Actually, there are many Webio stations~streams of interest - & I listen to Podcasts when I'm not @ home. Nevertheless - so much Mainstream Culture is pure ubiquitous poo - & here's one Station so very top-loaded w/ too much Goodness...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Scraps deSelby:

Also, this:

The urls are no good, but most of the internet radio stations are still there, and googlable.
Avatar 7:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@herb.nyc: ...that's FMU's budget for - 500 years??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Scraps deSelby:

I get you, RevRab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Scraps deSelby:

herb, thank you. It's especially boring on the weekends: no therapy!
Avatar 7:39pm herb.nyc:

@RevRabbit - will civilization survive 500 years, or will climate change (or a nuke) kill us? and how will "swag for life" people be compensated? that's exactly why i didn't choose this pay-option.
Avatar 7:41pm herb.nyc:

if band names are indicative of quality, well then this show is a winner. though if the bands were named A, B, C..., show is still a winner. because it's always the song, not the singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm melinda:

@herb: do you recommend Silicon Valley?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Scraps deSelby:

I still haven't found a good modern jazz or modern classical station. Wish more of FMU did that, too.
Avatar 7:44pm BadGuyZero:

  7:44pm JakeGould:

@ScrapsdeSelby: Have you tried WBGO? Newark-based station that is on 88.3FM on the dial. They veer towards predictable jazz, but they are not as bad as many NPR stations I have heard. I like them since they play Milt Jackson.
  7:45pm JakeGould:

@BGZ: Ayih!!!!
  7:46pm Peter in Seattle/NYC native:

WBGO is pretty good for the most part. The music can be quite purist in the hard bop realm, particularly in the late evenings.
  7:46pm Wowie:

Wow Paul! You're great! This is a great set. I got hooked after I awoke from a cold sweat nap and heard Desert Storm's New Trition . . . I mean really? Hey Drag City.
Avatar 7:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good continuous Classical Streams is hard. They tend towards the unadventurous, altho' there are good Bach/Early specializers. There is Bethany's show Archived : wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Scraps deSelby:

Jake: I'll try them, assuming they have an internet feed. Though I'm mostly wanting to lean against predictability.
Avatar 7:49pm herb.nyc:

@melinda Silicon V is v.v.good. maybe season one is better, mainly bec it was more new and original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Scraps deSelby:

This is an awesome set, Paul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm DJ PB:

I know it's not modern classical or jazz but thanks for the compliments, everyone!
  7:54pm IFisher:

Paul. I'm gripped with excitement by your set but I must take care not to react by hurling myself off the fire escape in the frenzy
Avatar 7:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There are a lot of Jazz streams. WWOZ N'Orleans is a great general Jazz & Heritage station - & FMU's sister station kinda.
TSF Jazz Paris is good general Jazz : tsfjazz.ice.infomaniak.ch...
This Swiss stream is good for Modern : stream2140.init7.net
'Radio Caprice' is some thing out of Russia I gather (?) that has any number of streams for very specific Genres - like this for Hard Bop:
Avatar 7:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yer flawless Mr. Bruno !
  7:57pm JakeGould:

@DJPB: You're not hip to the Jazz music, daddy-o? Bummer! Still digging tinge beatnik jive you're playing.
  7:57pm JakeGould:

Avatar 7:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& there's FMU's own 'destination: OUT' for adventurous Jazz :

here be some REEEEAL jazz (oh damn, the link doesn't have their jazz song. but it's funny, trust me plz): www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm melinda:

Thanks for the recommendation Herb.
Avatar 8:02pm dan in wisconsin:

Great show, Mr. Paul Bruno! Hello fellow listeners!
Avatar 8:05pm herb.nyc:

(to Melinda et al - KIKI AND HERB are just wild and crazy, if i can make a recommendation. their joe's pube residency just ended.)
Avatar 8:08pm dan in wisconsin:

Could I make a request for, "Wonderfully Colored Plastic War Toys," by the Dead Milkmen?
Avatar 8:21pm dan in wisconsin:

This A Giant Dog sounds very Thin Lizzy'ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm melinda:

joe's pube, hahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm DJ PB:

IFisher: I hope you're still on the fire escape and not street pizza!

Dan: Go see 'em live. You won't regret it.
Avatar 8:26pm BadGuyZero:

@dan in wisconsin: Andrew from A Giant Dog used to be in OBN IIIs. The most recent OBN IIIs record at times sounds like a Thin Lizzy record. The first time I heard "Let The Music" I thought it was Thin Lizzy.
Avatar 8:28pm dan in wisconsin:

Thanks BadGuyZero. They sound great, will check that out....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm DJ PB:

Dan, BGZ: May get to some OBN IIIs later on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm coelacanth:

greetings Paul and others
Avatar 8:30pm herb.nyc:

real good SAVAK song. i think they were just in nyc area. alas. and my friends saw TSOL last thursday and loved. i last heard them here, and it is great: www.punknews.org... (melinda - i've used the Joe's Pube joke a couple of times here, inspired from a Family Guy skit)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Scraps deSelby:

I'm not looking for jazz -- as you say, there's lots -- I'm looking for modern jazz, or avant garde jazz, or... I can't describe it genre terms, I guess. Jazz that's put out by labels like HatHut, Black Saint... [helpless gesture]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm melinda:

@herb: I recall it now but had forgotten.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Scraps deSelby:

radio, i mean. Gah....
Avatar 8:40pm herb.nyc:

NEW ALLIANCE made me think of SST, which made me think of JOE CARDUCCI. and i've seen him in documentaries & really should listen more. like WFMU May 25, 2016: The Systematic Special
Joe Carducci pays another visit to FMU, this time to co-host w/ special guest Joseph Pope. - The author and former SST Records partner invited along Joe Pope (of 80s SF band Angst/ former head of Systematic Record Distribution) to revisit the business history of independent record distribution circa 1978-1988. They tell the history of that era's music from the business side, and play four hours of music. NOTE: this is a 4 hour program, and is best enjoyed over a six pack and a page open to discogs. wfmu.org...

great show Paul - watched Sex and Broadcasting earlier followed by your show - great continuum =
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Scraps deSelby:

You have Frank Johnson's Favorites?? For a long time, the version of Tuxedomoon's "Crash" was my favorite Tuxedomoon song ever. It's an awesome instrumental. Another weaker version was all that I could find on CD. I found it eventually on a Tuxedomoon solo CD as a bonus track.
