Whooo! I think I need a cigarette after Matt Warwick's crusher of a daytime debut, but I'm here!
Avatar 12:01pm
Tony Coulter:

Just to correct the historical record: The cover sheet for "Insane Music for Insane People, Vol. 5" (on the left) is really green, not blue. Don't know why it turned out the way it did -- the other colors are pretty accurate.
Avatar 12:01pm
Carmichael:

Aloha Tony and listeners. Ready for some hiss.
Avatar 12:02pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, James!! Missed Matt's debut -- will have to dive head first into the archive.

Tony Coulter:

Hola, Carmichael!

Good afternoon, Tony and everyone.
Avatar 12:08pm
Mayuko:

"Insane Music for Insane People," sounds good to me.
Avatar 12:10pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mayuko!

Just wondering: Are you familiar with the Japanese band Harpy (on now)? They have a couple of CDs out. The vocalist was also in OOIOO.
Avatar 12:11pm
Tony Coulter:

I'm convinced that people who really are insane never like insane music.
Avatar 12:12pm
Mayuko:

Is this Itoken's Harpy?
Avatar 12:12pm
Mayuko:

haha, that must be true!
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Yes!!
Avatar 12:13pm
V Priceless:

Hey Tony & hissters!
Avatar 12:13pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mayuko: I mean, yes, it is Itoken's Harpy
Avatar 12:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, VP!!
Avatar 12:15pm
Tony Coulter:

Itoken (Kenji Ito ) gave me this cassette, actually.
Avatar 12:15pm
Mayuko:

This is my first time hearing their music, but Itoken is well known so I've heard their name.
Avatar 12:15pm
Mayuko:

oh! so you're friends with him?!
Avatar 12:16pm
Kay:

7th poster! Hah!
Avatar 12:17pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mayuko: No, just met him once years ago -- he have me a bunch of cassettes.
Avatar 12:17pm
Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, Kay!
Avatar 12:19pm
Tony Coulter:

er, not "have me" ... "gave me"
Avatar 12:23pm
Mayuko:

ah, apparently Kyoko passed away last year... I didn't know.
Avatar 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Oh, too bad -- didn't know that either.
Avatar 12:31pm
Mayuko:

I'm making art for myself for the first time in months and months and I'm glad to have your program to listen to while working. I sure need to get inspired.
Avatar 12:33pm
Kay:

Mayuko, I just visited your website/art link and it is beautiful. I'll have to listen to your WFMU program.

Hey there, JtotheK!
Avatar 12:43pm

oh!! Thank you for your kind words, Kay!
Avatar 12:46pm
Tony Coulter:

Can any English person listening now tell me what kind of (regional) accent Edward Ka-Spel has?
Avatar 12:54pm
Mayuko:

(@Kay and now I'm enjoying seeing Mati Klarwein's art)
  12:58pm
Mark Williams:

I thought he was born/raised in London, no?
Avatar 1:00pm
Kay:

(Mayuko, I like to give credit where credit is due. My avatar is Klarwein's Dead See.)
Avatar 1:00pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark! Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe it's a class-based accent? It's certainly highly distinctive!
Avatar 1:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Not a lisp, but lots of dropped syllables ala Barbara "Wah Wah" Walters.
  1:05pm
Mark Williams:

maybe he lisps!
Avatar 1:05pm
Tony Coulter:

Or dropped consonants, I guess. Shouldn't indulge in linguistic ruminations while doing a show.
Avatar 1:06pm
Tony Coulter:

Or, yes, maybe it is just that he lisps!
Avatar 1:19pm
Mayuko:

I wish I still have Colin potter's reissue from Vinyl On Demand, I wanna hear him sing more. I love his instrumental music, but I always enjoy his vocal too. This cassette tape has been amazing! So glad I didn't miss this show today.

Ike:

Greetings, hyoo-mans!!!
Avatar 1:20pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, Ike-Man!
Avatar 1:22pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mayuko: Two more Colin Potter tracks are coming up on this side of the tape
Avatar 1:23pm
Mayuko:

oh! yay!!
  1:28pm
Mark Williams:

@Mayuko - I have that VOD Potter reissue. Did you sell yours or something?
Avatar 1:33pm
Mayuko:

Mark - I sold and gave away all my possessions including cds and records when I left my country to move to the US. So many music I still miss!!!!!!
Avatar 1:35pm
Tony Coulter:

There's a huge new VOD box set coming soon, focused on U.K. '80s cassette releases. I imagine there'll be a good chunk of Colin Potter on it....
  1:36pm
Mark Williams:

for $150 minimum...
Avatar 1:38pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, well there is that little problem. I believe the LPs will also be sold separately, though.
Avatar 1:41pm
Tony Coulter:

Eventually, at least....
Avatar 1:45pm
Mayuko:

woo, I'll have to look into those.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko, that must have been wrenching. Wow. In my case it'd be my books.
Avatar 1:59pm
Tony Coulter:

Empty Wien (on now) is a band I've not heard elsewhere. I think they're Belgian....
  2:01pm
Mark Williams:

the Belgian Vini Reilly here
Avatar 2:04pm
Tony Coulter:

Was just thinking the same thing!
Avatar 2:04pm
Mayuko:

@james ah, it's hard to leave your books too although in my case I didn't have any rare ones. I didn't even bring a dictionary even though I came here to study English. Not sure what I was thinking.
  2:05pm
Mark Williams:

there needs to be a big Insane Music Reunion World Tour. The stage could a very claustrophobic bedroom. Shadows everywhere.
  2:07pm
Mark Williams:

@Tony - Simon Crab of Bourbonese Qualk was the other one who got a similar sound out of his guitar, and he was a rank amateur compared to Reilly.
Avatar 2:08pm
Tony Coulter:

I have actually thought about asking Bene Gesserit to come play in Portland. Financial limitations all around are the problem....
  2:08pm
Mark Williams:

this Human Flesh track is wonderful. There were so many hauntingly beautiful moments out of the Insane Music camp.
  2:09pm
Mark Williams:

if you make that happen Tony, give me a few months heads up if you can. Will be there.
Avatar 2:19pm
Tony Coulter:

Well, at the very least, they are apparently working on a song about Portland (which they've never been to).
Avatar 2:34pm
Tony Coulter:

It's interesting how different Insane Music 5 is from Insane Music 2 in terms of overall mood -- volume 5 seems much gloomier.
Avatar 2:50pm
northguineahills:

I got confused, Martha's comment board is the same color as Tony's and the music wasn't adding up.
Avatar 2:51pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, NGH! That's just the default color (I'm too lazy to fiddle with it)
Avatar 2:53pm
Tony Coulter:

Here's an easy trick to tell us apart: She's Martha – I'm the Muffins.
Avatar 2:54pm
Mayuko:

Thank you Tony, for the great show and the muffins.
Avatar 2:55pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks for showing up!
Avatar 2:55pm
Tony Coulter:

Cheers, everyone! See you next week....
Avatar 2:56pm

Some people including myself sometimes need gloomy music on the sunny summer day afternoon, so I appreciated that also!
