Thank you Evan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Bootsie:

Yes. I can remember hearing this very song in that very sort of place. :'(
  9:12pm JakeGould:

I bless the fact I grew up near the Coney Island/Brighton Beach boardwalk and just got to hear awesome pop disco as a kid just walking around. And now, EFD plays it again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm @sugarwolf@:

I love when songs I've already favorited get played!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Michael 98145:

  9:40pm Caroline:

Nice tribute, Evan.
  9:40pm Shannon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Thank you again, Evan.
  9:40pm JakeGould:

Bravo, EFD!
  9:41pm Stevel:

Bless you all. Keep each other safe as best you can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hopefully, _this_ time is the last time we have to go through with this nonsense (mass killings).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Gaylord Fields:

These words are affecting and gorgeous. I appreciate that your message is both universal and LGBT specific.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Chop Scott:

Very well said Evan. Remember the 1270 Club across from WBCN?
  9:54pm Stevel:

It's not possible or necessary to restate those words, but i very warmly remember the places that were home. Where you knew you were ok. So much love In the world will not be eclipsed by hatred and confusion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You're a class act efd.
  9:57pm Stevel:

Shaking it out with Rough Kids!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm efd:

thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate your kind words -- it helps me get over my feelings of self-consciousness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm efd:

Chop Scott, I think I remember that place...? But bear in mind I was down here by the fall of '78 and spent pretty limited time in the Boston area after that.
  10:01pm Stevel:

I like A Giant Dog more and more. Their live set was sharp, and a little weird. Those kids sounded a little messed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Messed up in a good way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Stevel:

I really, really want to see Kid Congo. Really.

hello efd and all
  10:23pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Hey! What’s up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It seems the Zombies never set a foot wrong artistically. Except breaking up right after their masterpiece ('Odessey & Oracle').
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

A friend of mine in college called the local rock station several times a week to request "Time of the Season."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Stevel:

Such incredible songs.
  10:25pm Danne D:

coelacanth :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm coelacanth:

Hey Jake!
...Rabbit, i think they didn't know it was a masterpiece!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hey, Garth! They're playing your song!
  10:26pm Danne D:

really can here where ZZ Top got their signature sound listening to this ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm coelacanth:

...hey Danne!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Reading that link now, and I'm so confused......2 of the guys in ZZ Top were in a fake Zombies cover band?! I had no idea
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Stevel:

Best ever.
Avatar 10:30pm BadGuyZero:

Good evening, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

They made 2 fake Zombies cover bands. TWO. My sides
  10:32pm greyhoos:

The Zombies vs Os Mutantes. Go.
  10:33pm Danne D:

BGZ!! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Do the Zs in ZZ Top stand for Zombies?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Man, how much drugs were people taking back in in 1969?!
  10:39pm JakeGould:

All the drugs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

So......they also faked another band at the same time. A female-led one. I'm just trying to process what I'm hearing right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I want movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Stevel:

Promoters of that era (and likely our own) are fascinating if somewhat repellent characters.
  10:44pm andrew:

i can kind of imagine sleeping to long on a weekend and waking up and saying honey, Ijust dreamed that the zztop guys toured as fake the zombies. possibly best r&r factoid ever
  10:45pm greyhoos:

@ Cliff: I always thought -- given the blues-rock/boogie debt -- that the name was a twist on the name of TX bluesman Z.Z. Hill. (ZZ Hilltop?) But apparently -- according to one dubious source -- they derived it from the name B.B. King. Shrug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Yep, shut 'er down before the Feds get involved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Then there was that time that Dusty Hill came to visit his cousin Hank Hill on TV.
  10:47pm JakeGould:

@Stevel: The music business might have changed, but I assure you sketchy behavior is the norm still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Wow, thanks Daniel & Evan for that interview!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm efd:

glad you enjoyed it!
  10:55pm greyhoos:

BTW: Back in the '60s, I gather that there were a number of Andy Warhol impersonators hitting the lecture circuit, all with the artists's carte blanche approval.
Similarly, I gather that decades later the surf-rock band Man or Astroman? granted a similar license-- allowing fan/tribute/cover bands to tour using their name.
  10:56pm JakeGould:

@EFD: Amazing the sheer extent of what folks got away with in the pre-Interweb days. I mean, chutzpah is too light a word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Figgsrock:

$10 if you play "Sleeping Bag" in this set EFD.
  10:56pm greyhoos:

BTW: What record store(s) in Atlanta were you hitting, EFD?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Well if Andy Warhol pulled something like this, that's just hilarious.
Avatar 10:58pm herb.nyc:

Great interview! Now I wanna read the story. (Semi related- the Shangri-Las did shows when no original member was in band. I heard this from Bobby Schayer, drummer supreme, and so he called the band the Shangri-Nots! Then I saw the band, a different version, do a free city hall park show. I saw RChristgau in crowd so I told him this.)
Avatar 10:59pm geezerette:

@greyhoos:The Warhol story was widely circulated and enthusiastically accepted on campuses. Who really knows?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm efd:

@Figgs that $10 is going to go unclaimed by me.
  10:59pm JakeGould:

Really? I always thought the biggest thing Andy Warhol had to deal with is unauthorized prints his studio assistants would make and then sell on their own. Gerard Malanga has silk screen ink on his hands.
Avatar 11:01pm herb.nyc:

I heard that Salvador Dali, late in his life, sat at the beach and signed blank canvases for money. True?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm efd:

@greyhoos I went to Decatur CD, the Decatur Wuxtry location, Wax n Facts and Criminal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

This is all so absurd, I can't stop laughing right now :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm efd:

(got a bunch of great stuff to play from all that shopping that you'll hear next week)
  11:03pm greyhoos:

@ Jake: Hahahaha! Yeah, that. And I'm old enough to remember those late-night TV ads for fake-but-real Salvador Dali" prints back in the '80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Figgsrock:

@EFD I'll save it for something important. Btw, the ARC summer sale is going on now--tons of 45s this year.
Avatar 11:05pm geezerette:

It's astonishing how naive and unnerved "straight"people were by Warhol & pop culture in general back then. Seriously!
  11:06pm greyhoos:

@ EFD: Sounds like you knew the entire circuit in advance.
Avatar 11:06pm geezerette:

Adults were always saying,"You're putting me on!",followed by nervous laughter.
Avatar 11:06pm herb.nyc:

These REAL tix for the REAL bands?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Avatar 11:11pm herb.nyc:

Related to Delta Promotions bkdg that is still there, wnyc had a story of an early computer virus. If I recall, it was really a good virus devised by people in India. And that bldg is still there, with virus name on bldg. -Im relying on memory here
  11:11pm JakeGould:

Are the bands humans? Or are they all Chuck E. Cheese robots? Or maybe those Showbiz Pizza robots?
  11:12pm Bklyn kid:

dunyun a real band opened tonite for tame impala in orospect park
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Naw, they're a bunch of trained chimps.
Avatar 11:14pm herb.nyc:

(OCD me found it. - en.m.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 11:16pm geezerette:

I love Tame Impala. What if they're really Wild Bores?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

herb.nyc, there was also the Cornell grad student who accidentally took out half the Internet with a computer worm in 1988. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Michele:

Whoa that was rockin! Hi Evan!!!
Avatar 11:20pm herb.nyc:

Cliff.Prague - so how did Czechoslovakia stream WFMU in 1988, after that accident?
Avatar 11:21pm geezerette:

Ultimate Painting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Haha, how did WFMU stream at all in 1988?
Avatar 11:22pm geezerette:

ha! Good point!
Avatar 11:25pm herb.nyc:

Didn't Delta Promotions sell the internet to half of Europe circa 1987? I just looked at DRalston article- great pix! Brain-challenged me loves pix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm efd:

@greyhoos I might have done just a teeny bit of research before going down there. :)
@Figgs Sadly I think my midtown work location (and general work business) is going to rule out a trip to the ARC sale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Ken mentioned last week that they had a phone phreaker who volunteered at the station in the early '80s who set up some kind of streaming service with Bell Labs over the phone lines, and you could edit audio too by dialing numbers on your phone or something?
  11:26pm V Priceless:

Hey Evan! Fun show! Happy 70th to Noddy Holder! Yay! Cheers!
Avatar 11:28pm herb.nyc:

I bought 6 CDs for $10 at ARC. Got my first Muffs, Blonder and Blonder (is there a reissue? This isn't it.). I plan on seeing them at Monty.
  11:28pm V Priceless:

Great JJ tune!
Avatar 11:30pm herb.nyc:

Who read Elvis C memoir? And his Joe J karaoke.
Avatar 11:33pm herb.nyc:

Back to ARC sale, look for Jack Rabidu's Big Takeover mag, near entry. I brought a bunch for sale there. Has a Kid Congos story, since Evan played him. On cover is Savages. Thx.
  11:36pm ice in bklyn:

that one makes sense @herb
Avatar 11:37pm geezerette:

good to hear a kills track.
  11:37pm ice in bklyn:

The ec/jj thing.
I'd not heard the band wore blue shirts before, thx EFD
  11:38pm Ignore Function:

Great show, EFD.
Avatar 11:39pm geezerette:

Thanks EFD, another great show!
Avatar 11:41pm herb.nyc:

@ice- I'll not spoil the EC/JJ story. Read book, very worth it. -----GAP DREAM- a band I learned via Evan, thx much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm rsj:

i wanted to hear this again today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm efd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm efd:

oh jfc I can't believe Jack Mello played this this morning?!
  11:46pm Ignore Function:

Haven't heard this since the 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm efd:

that is too weird... I've had this in my singles box for the past few weeks, seemed like a good fit after that pascal comelade/limiñanas track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Bootsie:

One of my '80s FAVES!
  11:49pm JakeGould:

I like the fact that WFMU DJs seem to be in endless competition to not play what other DJs have recently played. I love the churn of new sounds!
  11:52pm Danne D:

Packing it up but thanks for an excellent show as always Evan :) Until next time funk friends :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Cliff (moving to Prague!):
