	9:23am doctorjazz: Loving that swing, Cat Anderson track. Y'know, it had me thinking, on FMU, even folks that like and play jazz hardly touch swing...they may play 20s stuff, and bebop and beyond, swing seems not to interest most DJ's. Wonder why?
	9:29am Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Weird how WWII was a rupture in the timeline in most ways (there's PreWar & PostWar - the need for resources caused a recording ban, of course). Swing was when Jazz was really the Popular Music - & now it is perhaps the most unpopular w/ Jazzbos. That *is* interesting. I think it's under-credited as a a precursor to Rawk'n'Rolla - culturally as well as musically...Singer Ella Mae Morse fascinates me as being transitional.

	9:58am Stuart Rose: Good point, Rev, about swing became unhip for a lot of pious jazzbos But it's really quite a music- a lot of moving parts nicely interwoven, good tunes, the blues often showing, and great singing.
	10:03am Revolution Rabbit Nov63: For every era & kind of Jazz, there are people who love it & those who don't. (Really the tiny word 'Jazz' does too much service covering it all.) Obviously there is an art to working the Big Band to its' full advantage.

	10:44am doctorjazz: Like every kind of music, there is the 95% rule. That is, 95% of everything is ordinary or crap, 5% is amazing. I love all kinds of jazz (and most other music), but not every Reggae musician is Marley, not every Blues musician is Muddy Waters, etc. And, as mentioned, swing pretty directly begat Jump music, proto R and B, Louis Jordan, Johnny Hodges (who was Duke Ellington's alto sax, but released Jump stuff under his own name), and Jump Swing lead to Rock n Roll as much as Blues and Country, at least to my ears.

	10:57am Stuart Rose: Nice to hear an antique but just right word like 'begat' . Yeah, as the Right Reverend and you say, swing and its extensions had a real influence in R n B and, hence, rock. Later on, guitarists like Jerry Garcia get into Coltrane et al.
