An underground journey through the history of psychedelic rock, modern music, shimmering noise, free jazz, punk, funk, children's records played at the wrong speed, tape cut-up, static, the composition of decomposition, and subversive spoken word.

Just have 2 areas on your grill. One hot, one cooler. Get both sides browned, and then put on the cool part of the grill.

De-colonization had some unintended consquences...in some countries that are now a mess...not reported much on the news...

"I could never understand ethnic or national pride. Because to me, pride should be reserved for something you achieve or attain on your own, not something that happens by accident of birth. Being Irish isn't a skill, it’s a fucking genetic accident. You wouldn't say “I’m proud to be 5’11”. I’m proud to have a predisposition for colon cancer.” So why the fuck would you be proud to be Irish, or proud to be Italian, or American or anything?"

I'm with @cecile - I think after recently turning 30 I just would rather be as comfortable as possible and say fuck it.. I don't like wearing shorts.. doesn't feel right.. but I also couldnt care less about that weird sense of 'identity' .. eh.. I'm not the clothes man!!

Carlin makes sense, but humans don't—at least if you don't reckon with our living with and by small tribes of relatives for most of our history, and identifying with those groups very strongly. Modern people, who often enjoy the illusion that we're independent, are less prone to it...which I prefer, but I know that this is unusual in historic terms.

1. Winning WWII-that's a pretty big one...
2. Helping John Paul II stop the Cold War...
3. Winning the Korean War...sort of...

If you heard someone from Iceland say they were proud of the US Constitution, or an American with no Danish background say they were proud of Denmark's constitution (or Iggy Pop saying he was proud of "Astral Weeks"), wouldn't that strike you as a bit odd?

Well, at least. Lee, Kim and Steve should get back together. Thurston ain't gonna happen and I'm the least interested in him.

But personally i think all forms of pride are probably better dropped. Even without buying into the underlying theology, i can see why it sits alongside sloth and gluttony as one of the "seven deadly sins". Just another obstacle to clarity.

@Canturbury-you raise an interesting point about pride! And as a nationalist, its not so much about PRIDE its about protecting a way of life...just like Poles in Poland want to preserve their relatively monolithic culture....coveralls are good for projects around the house in that they protect my chest from splinters and random impacts with stuff...they are like a layer of armor for me...
