Thanks for playing this, Matt!

I know a cartoonist who draws tiny pigs heads instead of badges whenever he has to draw cops
Avatar 2:06pm

Yes thanks for this start.
Avatar 2:08pm

I think I will skip today's show - see you next week Matt - I'm sick of hate
Avatar 2:09pm

I'm tired of endless police brutality - and I'm also tired of generic cop bashing
Avatar 2:11pm

The world seems so unstable now. Glad for FMU DJs and commenters.

Jeff Golick:

Can I recommend some reading? The George Saunders piece in the NYer re Trump and the political divide in the USA is very sensitive and open-minded. www.newyorker.com... - It's not in any way *optimistic* but it does show where we are in a clear-headed and empathetic way.

@Jeff: That Saunders was an eye-opener. Tough read but enlightening. Not sure if the DNC/Clinton camp will take it to heart but it's lots to think about.

Saunders is a great wrriter, but I've put off reading that article because I don't need to be more depressed - but I guess I should

Afternoon, Matt!
Ralph & Susan (UK):

On the Undertones theme there is a great book out at the moment called Teenage Kicks My Life As an Undertone by Michael Bradley. It's a fascinating read

Jeff Golick:

From the Saunders piece, which brought it to mind here just now:

"Early in the evening, a protester about my age asked me, “Where’s your sheet?” Seeing my confusion, he regrouped. “If you’re a Trump supporter, I mean.” Later, I saw him again, shouting to the police that they were all “pigs.” Still smarting over his Klan crack, I asked how he could hold a sign claiming that hate doesn’t work while calling a group of people he didn’t know “pigs.” “They are pigs,” he said. “Every one of them.” His wife was murdered a few years ago, he added, and they did nothing about it.

So there you go. Welcome to America."
Avatar 2:43pm

@Jeff well stated - and fits in with my earlier comment
