Hi efd.
  9:04pm P-90:

Carmine killed it every time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm efd:

hi P-90!
  9:08pm P-90:

"Echo and the Bunnymen": Best new band name of the 80s. (Runner-up: "The Teardrop Explodes.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@P-90: After all - they debuted the same night in the same place.
  9:12pm Tom chiu of FLUX:

Roll out all those echo reject traxxx.....which are still better than 99.99% of music out there
  9:15pm P-90:

@RRN63: I did not know that! I do know they were both on Zoo Records, so they first toured on the same bill?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@P-90: I just read Cope's 'Head On' is all. When they were unknown fledglings they played their 1st shows same night @ probably Eric's in Liverpool.

  9:33pm Joe stalvey:

Really liking the archival news audio.
Avatar 9:33pm Roberto:

I remember that night very well. I watched it on TV from my home in L.A. :)
Avatar 9:33pm Todd-o-phonic:

My memory is it was scary!
  9:35pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Sadly I have no blackout memories as I was -19 years old. However I have had the lovely experience of not having power in my own house for up to nine days, on no less than three occasions, one of those occurring during my college applications, if that counts for anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm melinda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Uncle Michael:

hi coelacanth
  10:29pm Stevel:

Yo, UM and others.

The blackout opener sent me on a blackout and Son of Sam reading jag. God bless the internet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm efd:

hi Uncle Michael, coel, Tim, and happy early birthday Marc15!
Avatar 10:32pm Danne D:

Yay Muffs :)

Another: Nads. w/cheers of "Go Nads"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Uncle Michael:

My sis was a Nad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm coelacanth:

the current, unfortunate fetish of removing all or most body hair renders that double entendre confusing to some people now, i'd guess.
  10:44pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Was that a “Shiny Destination” reference? Asking for a friend.
  10:47pm JakeGould:

  10:47pm herb.nyc:

Go Uncle Michael's sis!
Avatar 10:48pm Danne D:

@herb.nyc - classic intramural football headline from back in the day:
"Screaming Orgasms Rip Hot Condoms"
  10:48pm herb.nyc:

Coincidence- Evan says waters just as I type JWaters in email
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm melinda:

I love the social media air horn.
  10:50pm herb.nyc:

Bono: "I will follow EFD "
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Uncle Michael:

My show needs a social media bicycle bell.
  10:51pm JakeGould:

What about a social media Vuvuzela?
  10:51pm herb.nyc:

@DanneD: oh my...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm coelacanth:

Jake, the double entendre @herb@10:34...but -? (not that i can't figure out the general idea, but...?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm coelacanth:

Michael, if i get an airhorn for my bicycle you can have my bell (which i never use anyway)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Uncle Michael:

My show is a bicycle bell to The EFD Show's metaphorical airhorn.
  10:55pm herb.nyc:

Spk of hair, female armpit hair, yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm coelacanth:

melinda, the social media airhorn still cracks me up every time! it almost makes me want to get on twitter or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm coelacanth:

Bowie's final bow.
...he could not have done it more eloquently.
  10:58pm herb.nyc:

I saw David Byrne on bike,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Uncle Michael:

How did the bell sound?
Avatar 10:59pm geezerette:

So beautiful, how did he do that? So pure. And the heart beat.
  11:00pm herb.nyc:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm coelacanth:

Uncle M, it's beautiful! i don't actually want to part with it. though i never manually ring it, it rings a little when i go over bumps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Polyus:

Realizing just now that I have not listened to this record in too long.
  11:03pm herb.nyc:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Uncle Michael:

You hang onto that bell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm coelacanth:

i've listened to that album, or parts of it, every few weeks since it was released. i've also been getting into "outside" and "the next day" - which i stupidly ignored when they were released.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm melinda:

@coelecanth: me too, I've been resisting twitter but hearing the airhorn weakens my resolve.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Uncle Michael:

night all...see you in Slumberland.
  11:06pm JakeGould:

@herb.nyc: Depends on whose armpit hair it is and how much there is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm melinda:

'night, UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm coelacanth:

gnight Uncle M
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm melinda:

Re: armpit hair, I've been thinking that stubble should become acceptable. Like it is for men's facial hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm coelacanth:

this guy's voice reminds me of the lead singer from "human sexual response".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm coelacanth:

but, melinda! why should stubble (which is horrible anywhere, on any body...from a tactile viewpoint) be acceptable instead of naturally occurring hair? (maybe trimmed)
  11:13pm JakeGould:

Yeah! Stubble sucks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm melinda:

Agree about the tactile part. But it shouldn't be an all or nothing deal, that's too constraining.
  11:16pm JakeGould:

Do guys get their whole beard areas waxed? Think about what I just said…
  11:19pm herb.nyc:

Karyn Kuhl have armpit hair?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm melinda:

Waxing sounds horrible.
  11:19pm herb.nyc:

Grace Slick probably does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm melinda:

Nice cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm coelacanth:

well, there are no rules! if a woman shaves or waxes or whatever, or not, has never determined whether i'd be with her or not; but if there is stubble there, (wherever "there" may be!) i don't want to touch there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm melinda:

Yes to no rules. Freeform body hair!
  11:22pm Eddy in Australia:

Hi Evan and everyone! Joining the fun for the last hour or so.
@P-90: You know about the Crucial Three, right?
@T-O-P Todd: Can't wait for The Muffs on Saturday.
@Coelacanth: To EFD's credit, he gave "The Next Day" a fair run at the time; it's a good album
  11:23pm JakeGould:

Yeah, but why do women have to wax their mustaches but guys don’t do the same thing? I mean, people get their buttholes waxed.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm coelacanth:

i really would rather feel soft hair; but i didn't escape some society conditioning! a lot of hair on the legs took some getting used to. (but i did.) and a mustache? i can, without hesitation, handle some hair there... but i think an abundance of dark mustache hair on a woman might be beyond my enlightenment-ness!
  11:29pm JakeGould:

Awww… Jeez… I brought the whole chat down. Sorry folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm coelacanth:

i had to think about that, Jake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm melinda:

The reason for not waxing anything is....pain.
  11:32pm johnk77:

the tubes were great
and polymorphously perverse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm coelacanth:

...and, for what it's worth, i - who only shave about every 5 days, shaved every single day for 4 years when i was with someone who had very sensitive skin.
  11:39pm JakeGould:

What about when people shave their heads. Why not wax their whole skull?
  11:40pm JakeGould:

Those Gotobeds made a witty Red Hot Chili Peppers Joke right there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm melinda:

Pain, Jake.
  11:41pm JakeGould:

@melinda: Okay… Okay… Pain… But still, people do tons of painful things for vanity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm coelacanth:

Eddy @ 11:22 i don't know where i was at the time.
...when i first heard tracks from "blackstar", my immediate thought was that i should've been paying more attention to Bowie all those years, since around scary monsters when i stopped.
...and a few minutes later he died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm coelacanth:

i'd bet some people wax their skulls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm melinda:

Maybe the hair that gets waxed is considered somehow dirty or inappropriate (nether regions, back hair, female facial hair) and deserving of a painful rip. Dunno. But there probably are people who wax skulls or whatnot.
  11:48pm JakeGould:

And here is a link to the Karyn Kuhl Band release with that exact track. karynkuhl.bandcamp.com...
  11:48pm Eddy in Australia:

@Coelacanth: You're not alone in giving him a wide berth after Scary Monsters! That said, there were a few gems in the interim: I like Cat People, Absolute Beginners, and Underground to name a few.
  11:49pm herb.nyc:

@coelacanth-I treasure those 4yrs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm coelacanth:

me too herb, despite the razor burn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm melinda:

Grace Jones sounds good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm coelacanth:

actually, Eddy, i've now gotten into those i mentioned - but also "heathen"...and i'm looking forward to hearing tin machine. i remember hearing about the tin machine concept back then and thinking i should give it a listen; but somehow never did.
  11:57pm JakeGould:

  12:00am P-90:

Thanks, efd!
