Bandistan Ensemble is a youthful Central Asian traditional and classical instrument orchestra that performs traditional and contemporary music. With support from international arts exchange organization CEC ArtsLink, they're on their first US tour, which includes a free concert at the Asia Society this Thursday night
(July 14th). We'll air highlights from that concert on tonight's show.
They also perform Friday night (July 15th) in the Met Museum's Gallery 999 in conjunction with the exhibition Court and Cosmos; Saturday at the Mott Haven / Port Morris Waterfront Celebration in the Bronx, and they'll improvise a live soundtrack as Sergey Paradjanov’s 1969 film The Color of Pomegranate is screened Sunday evening (July 17th) at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
Learn more about the Bandistan Ensemble and CEC Artslink's programs at http://www.cecartslink.org/projects/GAL/PT_US_tour_2016.html#ensemble and http://www.cecartslink.org.
Special thanks to concert and recording engineer and technical director David Mason; Maxim Tumenev and Susan Katz of CEC Artslink, and to Asia Society Director of Global Performing Arts and Special Cultural Initiatives Rachel Cooper and the Asia Society, http://www.asiasociety.org.
