If my bearings are correct, Honest Jon's is a few doors away from Mountain Grill Cafe, namesake of one of Hawkwind's albums! I recall seeing it in 1984 while shopping (for records, naturally) at the Portobello Road flea market.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Gary:

Hi Dean! Not sure if I saw the Mountain Grill Cafe, although it sounds familiar. Frankly, I was too excited to really notice anything other the CDs I'd picked up -- holy bejeebus, but that is an amazing record store.

...always been *afraid* of England - because of possibility of entering a Music Store & never being seen again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm

NGH! The guy in Distortion Records recommended it when I asked him for "interesting Dutch stuff"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm

RevRab, I was in Honest Jon's for at least 2 hours ... and it's smaller than my apartment

If it's as good as it used to be, L'Oblique in Montreal is a similar kind of store. More boutique than warehouse, but wow, an amazing selection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Gary:

I'm going to have to make it back up to Montreal, I see
  7:30pm

And Cheap Thrills, another good Montreal store, at least c.2000.

Was hoping for great Thai food in Brooklyn. Tried a place called Look (by Plant Love House) a few weeks ago. Not bad, not bad at all, but still not as good as Thai food in Queens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
Gary:

You know, Ike, there used to be some good places on and near Church Avenue, my old neighborhood in Brooklyn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
Gary:

... and speaking of Thai
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Alex In Illinois:

There are lots of Thai places in the Chicago area. I think there were more, 20 years ago. Maybe they have just moved westward. Either that, or it is a case of the younger generation not wanting to be in the restaurant business, which happens with all types of family owned restaurants.
Avatar 9:46pm

sounds good!

Hi Uncle Michael,
Since you live closer to Tornado Alley than most of us, I thought maybe you drove 100 miles West one day with a camcorder, and recorded them yourself.

Gary, so pleased that you had a great time this side of the water. It will take a few weeks to absorb all the sounds.
The Dove is a lovely little pub by the Thames, trust you had a pint of London Pride.
