Avatar 12:11pm Cheri Pi:

Heya VP!
Avatar 12:15pm V Priceless:

According to The Stranglers FB page, it was 26 years ago today that Hugh Cornwell split from the band, after a 16 year stint...where does the time go?
  12:16pm Tim in VT:

Nina Hagen
Number 4?

Best German Acts:

  12:16pm LizGig:

Hmm. Perhaps some Virgin Prunes to keep this vibe going?
Avatar 12:19pm fred:

@Tim in VT: No Neubauten on this list? Or are you just as confused as I am about the first word in their name?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Rich in Washington:

not to slam the rest of the Stranglers, but I don't know how they could possibly do it without Hugh. Was stunned to see it's been 26 years.
  12:45pm Polyus:

oh hey, how was Carcass in NYC?
Avatar 12:50pm Jim Devoid:

Shining Blade sounds so similar to Tokyo Blade!
Avatar 12:51pm Cecile:

If you have Bolt Thrower, that would be great.
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

Thank you!

how the hell did it "bring the genre into the mainstream"?!??! what BS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm chris:

hey, Diane and all! yay for that ripper last set!
Avatar 1:06pm Cecile:

it is, kinda.
  1:13pm Dean:

I don't remember experiencing punk as an "invasion" at the time. It felt to me like a flourishing. I recall attending shows in LA at the time thinking, "Wow, this is such a wild, creative, welcoming community of fun, smart, entertaining, cocky kids and young adults." I realize it meant something different to those in NY and the UK, as noted in the show. But "invasion" seems an overstatement, a media con.
Avatar 1:14pm MenfussMike:

i do like Michael DesBarres though. i think I like Detective better than Silverhead
Avatar 1:18pm Cecile:

I knew more about heroin in third grade than these grownups did.
Avatar 1:20pm Wild Neil:

Its sad people got hooked on heroin.
Avatar 1:22pm V Priceless:

Avatar 1:24pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Everything I know about heroin I learned at the group house I lived in, mid 1980s; I was the one abstainer in a house full of users. "Parties" were................ eerie.
Avatar 1:27pm Cecile:

that was a complete lie. It was a fight between who was going to run the band - Glenn or John.
Avatar 1:29pm Wild Neil:

@REV-Glad you lived to tell about it! REALLY!
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

from everything I've seen, Sid didn't do it.
Avatar 1:31pm MenfussMike:

hahah..news report of the year
  1:34pm hey Tim:

I think your list ought to read:

1) Nina Hagen
2) Nina Hagen
3) Nina Hagen
4) Nina Hagen

3 and 4 could be switched but Nina Hagen is certainly 1
  1:43pm Polyus:

I'm cool with the non-smoking stuff Michael, just sayin'.
Avatar 1:44pm Cecile:

yeah, me too.
Avatar 1:44pm Cecile:

and yeah, screw you baby boomers.
Avatar 1:44pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:46pm Wild Neil:

Who did the song "These are people I know that died"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Stevel:

Jim Carroll
Avatar 1:47pm Cecile:

is it wrong for me to be a tiny bit bitter about trying to stay relatively clean and sober but not being afforded opportunities addictive personalities get?
Avatar 1:48pm V Priceless:

Reagan's dismissive attitude towards the initial AIDS reports have secured his place in the flames of Hades, that's for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Stevel:

Cecile: Understandable.
Avatar 1:49pm Cecile:

you know it's horrible when ORRIN FRICKING HATCH is calling you to task.
  1:51pm Dean:

Correlation is not causation, Cecile.
Avatar 1:52pm Cecile:

yeah, yeah. Also I'm a high functioning woman. Part of propping someone up is actually being kind of vulnerable in some way.
  1:52pm Polyus:

I am probably in the minority, but that MC3 tour was one of the saddest things I have ever seen. Evan freaking Dando.
Avatar 1:53pm Cecile:

I saw them with Marshall Crenshaw. He was no Rob Tyner, but it was good to see Wayne Cramer.
Avatar 1:56pm Wild Neil:

I haven't seen a concert in years.
  1:57pm Fred:

oh, rock and roll wasn't an art form before, what, 1978?
Avatar 1:59pm Chris from DC:

I haven't seen a show since Tuesday.
  2:00pm Dean:

ART, "The Only Band in the World," burst upon the scene in 1980.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Stevel:

Great Clash choice!!
Avatar 2:05pm fred:

I haven't seen a show in over a month. That hadn't happened in over a decade. Fuck you very much state of emergency
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Stevel:

yup, cr@p, missed them both
Avatar 2:18pm Cecile:

Avatar 2:19pm fred:

@Stevel: also, the floods severely damaged some venues that were isolated enough to survive the onslaught of breeding hipsters. You know the type: they move to lively neighborhoods on daddy's dime in their early twenties, then call the cops on any noise past 8pm

Avatar 2:33pm Cheri Pi:

Soupcans' jib-cut approval
  2:33pm Polyus:

er what Cheri said.
Avatar 2:38pm fred:

I'm really impressed by how everyone I know in the noise scene like Voivod if they know them. That's rare. Even The Ex have some saying they're no good since G.W. Sok or Luc left
Avatar 2:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

  2:42pm matt:

Damn it, i love the new big biz album
  2:44pm Polyus:

I read something the other day that hinted at a Carcass/ Deafheaven tour this Fall. Which would be kind of funny, given that Deafheaven are the band everyone loves to hate. The hardcores are gonna be crabby.
  2:45pm matt:

Oh hell yea HELL YEA
