Morning, everybody. Whenever it's this hot, the blues feels right.

It's hot in the Pacific Northwest, too. Baseball on the radio weather.

That should be BRUCE Thomas on bass. Persona non grata with Elvis, too.

The old broadcast mixers with rotary potentiometers and big knobs were less confusing than these crappy newfangled boards!!!
  4:18am
Mark R:

Oh, it's not the board! It's the board operator! I keep leaving the turntable in cue mode, and then not looking at the VU meters.

I worked out the timeline, once -- my parents conceived me either on the weekend that Allen Ginsberg first read "Howl" in public, or the weekend that James Dean was killed. Early October, '55.

I was born less than 24 hours before TheBeatles did the Royal Command Performance & John said 'rattle your jewelry'. Musta been conceived around when their 1st album was being put together.

That brings back memories--that was a spoof of their competitor's commercial, WRIF. The truth is the magic had left WABX many years before that. Til about '72 or '73 they were a freeform station, actually inspired by WFMU. But they were also a commercial station, and you know how that goes, inevitably, eventually...there's more money in repetitious programming than risking losing listeners by playing something "weird."

Whereas we get to play whatever we want here. So poverty has its upside.
