We do so love Michael Shelley, but what a nice surprise! Listening to you from the wilds of West Shokan and it's like you're here in our little cabin with us...come for a swim, and tell MW to take off his socks!
Actually, not a bad summer for me. The worst thing I can think of is that a town inspector came by and said I must take down my above-ground pool. I just got it this summer and now I don't know what to do with the thing. Also, hi Becky and fellow commiserators!
Montana's woe this summer has been a jellyfish-thing invasion of the Yellowstone River. www.theatlantic.com...

Love Iris Dement's cover on the Tulare Dust Merle tribute record, too.

tenant life: deadbeat landlord who's allegedly stiffed plumber (my security deposit's probably hostage, eh) - won't replace broken 30-yr-old washer, since april - and enemy neighbor's apartment smells, seemingly hasn't caught on. It doesn't agitate/spin, so now dryer's filtering's clogging with dirt and dog hair
Internet research shows that "Busted" was written by Harlan Howard in 1962. I loved the lyrics of that one.

Don and Tracy:
My knee blew out over the Fourth of July holiday; our friend with Parkinson's fell and the front door had to be broken down to get to her (now she's having to move to a nursing home); Don got yelled at repeatedly by a Hollywood legend; and I had to spent a total of 10 days with my mom...there was also a GIANT spider in our bed last night, which is still lurking about.
These summer stories sound terrible. Mine hasn’t been that bad. But last week as I was going to lunch I saw a huge, bloated dead rat and then saw a dead pigeon with it’s wings spread out on the way back. And then when I went home that way I saw a beautiful, yellow warbler who was sadly dead.
I actually had a really good summer this year, but I've had some bad summers that were doozies, so I can relate to all these tales of woe. I am all too familiar with that "what the fuck was the deal with *that*?" hangover just before Labor Day.

“On the saddest of all days” my friend went to the most forlorn pound “in the scariest neighborhood” to rescue a dog – “so that it would be a happy day for SOMEone”
Thanks Sean, I'm in for reverse culture shock. I grew up FL (Jacksonville and Gainesville). I'll still have WFMU. To think the first time I listened to WFMU was 1998 on a crappy tinny stream to hear Monica, good times (back when I was still in FL).
Hey Becky great show what I caught of it! My Summer has been sucky, too much work and other problems. Only one beach day and today an aborted beach misson. Wah! Also, that track is "Ethiopia" by Cedric Brooks. WHAD I WIN??!! Also - I quit drinkin' also! Cheers, teetotaller!!

Hey Becky, thanks for this! What an awesome idea and actuality for a show. I've had some crummy summers, fer sher. This one has been kind of lame as I have had to work from 4 pm to 12 am--very few summer evenings out and about...
