I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Did you catch Gary's show this week? I'm only halfway through it but it's so great. The Gỗ Lim set is amazing. Uplifting music, depressing backstory. I already knew about Hang on the box, but I'm very intrigued by that band from Nepal. Later, the live show comes first
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

Good Saturday Mayuko, fred, and all! Bit of pre-hurricane shopping and I am ready to go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, fred, james, Mayuko and vertiguys & vertigals. I hope all is well out there today.
Avatar 12:05pm Mayuko:

I couldn't tune in this past Thu, fred, I'll go into the archives and see(hear) what you're referring to! Hello, james! Pre-hurricane is the right weather for today's show, to me anyway. Want that uneasy feeling of before the storm!
Avatar 12:06pm Mayuko:

Hello Ken! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

Sorry it's been bad sound quality, just fixed the cable problem!!!!
Avatar 12:16pm fred:

I had a very weird dream this week, in which I was a 2D cartoon character. I was supposed to lead a dragon into battle but only got a green triangle with smaller triangles protuding. So I turned to the artist and said: that's no dragon, that's a lame stegosaurus with violet plates. The dream ended there, but the "violet dream" in the title reminded me of it
Avatar 12:19pm Mayuko:

I wonder what YOU looked like and if your body parts consisted of triangles as well.
Avatar 12:20pm Mayuko:

Sounds like artsy cartoon actually. and funny coincidence!
Avatar 12:22pm fred:

I was basically a stick figure with purple blotches for feet, red ones for hands, and a violet triangle hat that was lazily cut and pasted from the beast's plates. I was looking at myself but somehow it was me in that dream logic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm mauri:

Hey Mayuko and minna

@fred Thats interesting and new to me. Ive never heard of someone being 2D in a dream. I've seen a computer game one but never been a character in it.
  12:23pm mzz:

omg zzzz
Avatar 12:25pm Mayuko:

oh hallo, mauri! thanks for tuning in! hola mzz, hang in there!
Avatar 12:25pm fred:

I'd love to hear Jackie McDowell live
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm mauri:

tea song as im making some. I used to listen to this song a lot and drink a lot of tea. I want six cups not one or twoooo.
Avatar 12:31pm fred:

I want to hear Modular String trio live too (they're kinda the kind of act that could play at my fave venue, so this could happen)
Avatar 12:31pm Mayuko:

@fred I take the responsibility for your lame violet triangle hat, I was sending some violet vibes to the world the last couple of days as I was prepping this show.
Avatar 12:32pm Mayuko:

I think my CD player just got exploded, I am sorry about that everyone.
  12:32pm mzz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm listener james from westwood:

The Mozart was lovely.
Avatar 12:38pm fred:

@mauri: I agree, y dream life is way more interesting than my real one
Avatar 12:38pm Mayuko:

boo mzz! you missed すみれ September Love so no more J pop treats today! (actually I do have some cued)
Avatar 12:39pm Brian in UK:

Hello Mayuko and weekenders.
Just one more letter and you have a violent dream. So a nightmare. A night horse. Strange thing language.
Avatar 12:40pm Mayuko:

I've had dreams where I don't exist in but I've never been two dimensional either I think.
Avatar 12:41pm fred:

As far as I can tell that was my first 2D one
Avatar 12:42pm Brian in UK:

Dreams to me are kind of timeless (fourth dimension) so they have little sense of context.
Avatar 12:44pm Mayuko:

Hello Brian! Thanks for tuning in! What is a night horse???
Avatar 12:46pm fred:

I wonder if that was the same Zenial I saw almost ten years ago. Same field, different vibe
Avatar 12:46pm Brian in UK:

Time for tea. Fish tonight. Better get my skates on.

Mayuko, just a play on the word nightmare, mare being a horse. Crazy English language
Avatar 12:49pm fred:

I'm sure there are Japanese words that should just as crazy if you translate the components literally. I actually love to do that with American idioms, which just confuses people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I was poking around on a web site and stumbled upon the Dream House in Tribeca. It seems to be violet-colored inside. www.atlasobscura.com...
  12:50pm Joe McG:

Picking up garbage in Queens? Isn't that Garbage Time's job? Hi, Mayuko!
Avatar 12:52pm Brian in UK:

Mayuko apologies for any confusion.

We really are eating skate fish. Well more a cartlidge than a fish.

Hey Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Mayuko - I checked the fill-ins page and your date for Samantha is the 13th, 3AM - 6AM.
Avatar 12:54pm fred:

No Vertigo for two weeks? If you have a three-hour fill-in and Jeff M subs for you, I think I can make it through it (Noise and Syrup is a longtime fave)
Avatar 12:57pm Brian in UK:

Kurasawa could make a film of it.
  12:58pm Joe McG:

Hey Brian!
Avatar 12:59pm fred:

@JoeMcG: this sounds like a court-ordered penalty, doesn't it. Did she wander into hipsterland without enough credit?
Avatar 1:03pm Mayuko:

The man just had killed his colleague and she's pursuing him that she'd die with him.
  1:04pm mzz:

seems 二代目 市川 左團次 had intersting career and life according to wiki
Avatar 1:05pm geezerette:

What's it about? :)
Avatar 1:05pm fred:

@Mayuko: there are two maybe interesting shows around here in the coming months, but do you have any info about them? First is Kenichi Yoshida, playing Shamisen, second is Kakushin Nishihara, playing Biwa.
  1:05pm mzz:

had friendship with Sergei Eisenstein,
Avatar 1:06pm geezerette:

Oh, I just saw the summary in comments. Wish we could watch it!
  1:06pm mzz:

gotta go catch you later
Avatar 1:06pm Mayuko:

I meant, because the man had killed his colleague in dueling, he had to commit to harakiri. and she wants to die with him. Man, explaining things brings more confusion it seems!
  1:07pm Joe McG:

@fred: Yes, picking up the garbage in Queens must be Mayuko's new DJ task.
Avatar 1:08pm geezerette:

I love this. :D
Avatar 1:09pm fred:

@Joe McG: As if there wasn't enough to do at the station. I think you guys are expanding in the wrong way
Avatar 1:09pm Mayuko:

Now the couple is wandering and on their way to die in midnight.
Avatar 1:10pm geezerette:

Beautiful image, thanks Mayuko!
Avatar 1:12pm Mayuko:

Avatar 1:12pm Mayuko:

and geezerette!! thanks you for tuning in!!!
Avatar 1:13pm Mayuko:

@mzz yah! I was fascinated by that Sergei Eisenstein thing too! See ya later!
Avatar 1:14pm fred:

I thought I heard "ichi" meant "first" (from the Ichiban stream). Is there any connection to these "Ichikawa" associated with "the second"?
  1:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello, maestro Mayuko!
  1:15pm Joe McG:

Hi, Mayuko, I didn't want to miss the couple dying at midnight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

People's littering drives me nuts. I can't fathom just throwing trash out of a car window or onto a sidewalk or parking lot. Very nice that you're doing some clean-up, Mayuko.(Assuming that isn't a court-ordered punishment for littering.)
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

@Joe McG of course you don't want to miss it.

Hello Doug!!!!
Avatar 1:24pm Mayuko:

Thanks Ken for looking it up! So I am filling in for Samantha on 13th, 3AM - 6AM ET!
Avatar 1:25pm Mayuko:

Littering is totally uncool, I'm not only picking up garbage around but also TELLING people to do so. and that's true I should bring Matt W with me, people might take him more seriously than me because he is tall.
Avatar 1:30pm fred:

@Mayuko: Thanks for confirming that I'm useless being a small guy. I can enjoy being lazy and possibly smug/oppressed about it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm melinda:

hi folks
Avatar 1:33pm geezerette:

Howdy Melinda!
Avatar 1:34pm fred:

Whoops, that came out wrong and harsher than intended, which was was with tongue firmly in cheek
Avatar 1:36pm geezerette:

Mayuko, you're playing such beautiful music. :)
  1:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Prevent litter: spay and neuter your pets!
Avatar 1:39pm Mayuko:

Brian @12:57 Toribeyama shinju 鳥辺山心中 did become a film couple of times, seems like in 1923 and then in 1936, and Rintaro Shoji's Toribeyama Shinju (I just played) was the theme song for 1936 one. I wouldn't be surprised if there are many others...
Avatar 1:39pm Mayuko:

Thanks geezerette! Hello melinda!
Avatar 1:40pm geezerette:

Doug, tee hee :D
Avatar 1:41pm Mayuko:

@fred it's really not fair though that short people like myself often somehow not taken seriously :/
Avatar 1:43pm fred:

Any info about Tom Hang? Google insists that I'm really looking for someone called Tom Hanks, whoever that is
Avatar 1:45pm duke:

Just in time for the Cocteau Twins
Avatar 1:45pm Mayuko:

Haha! Poor Tom Hang. He just had a new release this year I think from the same label Where To Now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm listener james from westwood:

Cocteau Twins!
Avatar 1:46pm Mayuko:

@fred wheretonow.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 1:46pm Mayuko:

Hallos duke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

OTOH, some litter helped me out recently. Daughter and I were going out for a canoe excursion while on vacation. The pickup had a loose battery terminal and a piece of foil from a stray gum wrapper was enough to get the vehicle started again.
Avatar 1:47pm Mayuko:

That Cocteau Twins was the climax of this show... and this is my last track... Thank you all for listening!
Avatar 1:47pm fred:

@Mayuko: I know, but being ignored has positives too. I'm sure there are strategic opportunities there, but I suck at these
Avatar 1:48pm djsheilab:

Hey Mayuko! Just got an e-mail from Joe McG reminding me that you're on the air now. Have really been enjoying all the beautiful Japanese tunes.
Avatar 1:48pm Mayuko:

Ah Sheila! Thank you! I hope you're having a beautiful weekend!
Avatar 1:48pm geezerette:

Avatar 1:49pm fred:

What? The shows' over already? You really have to make it longer. Two hours is not enough!
Avatar 1:49pm fred:

And do tell more about that last track!
Avatar 1:51pm duke:

This can't be over. I just got here.
Avatar 1:52pm djsheilab:

I don't want it to end either!
Avatar 1:52pm Jason Elbogen:

The studio isn't as hot anymore, right? (It wasn't yesterday) Time to change to a two hour show, Mayuko!
Avatar 1:52pm Jason Elbogen:

I meant THREE hours, of course.
Avatar 1:54pm Jason Elbogen:

English word is actually 'Hourglass'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for the much-entertaining show. If you please, can you post what is the bed music? It's lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm listener james from westwood:

Always nice to have you along while I'm editing on a Saturday. Safe weekend to anyone dealing with Hermine!
Avatar 1:57pm geezerette:

That really comes through in the music, without words being understood.
Avatar 2:00pm fred:

Yeah, but Keiji Hano demands a massage before his shows, from a female. There are limits to his outsider stand
Avatar 2:01pm djsheilab:

Definitely gonna tune in more often. Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar 2:01pm duke:

Avatar 2:02pm fred:

@Sheila B: You won't regret it! I'm so torn now that you're at the same time as Jason
Avatar 2:05pm Mayuko:

I brought this oldest shinto ritual music thing in the new bin that I'm super excited about and could have played it... which is 45 min long, haha. Thank you everyone for tuning in! Safe weekend to you to james, and to everyone.
Avatar 2:10pm fred:

@Mayuko: You could play this first thing when you fill-in for Samantha. Nobody would notice at this hour. But I'd be listening and would love it
