The Merasi Master Musicians of Rajasthan are an all star team of folk musicians from the Thar Desert region of North India, playing rousing folk and Sufi songs that have been passed down for centuries.
They're on a rare North American tour, and it just so happens that their final show in our area is at WFMU's Monty Hall Thursday night (October 13th), kicking off our five-band HONK NYC! concert spectacle at 7:30 pm. Meet the Merasi on Transpacific Sound Paradise this week!

More info:
We have two pairs of tickets available to see Vieux Farka Touré in a concert presented by the World Music Institute at Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street, Saturday October 1 at 8 pm.
From the venue website: Often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”, Vieux Farka Touré is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré, the artist mainly responsible for introducing Africa’s desert blues tradition to audiences around the world.
Event info here.
We also have two pairs of tickets available to see Maarja Nuut at Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette Street, Saturday October 1 at 7:30 pm.
From the artist’s website: Maarja Nuut is a fiddler and singer from Northern Estonia. Her music combines traditional dance tunes, songs, and stories with live electronics to create an intricate layered soundscape in a space where minimalism and experimental music meet the village musical traditions of pre-war Europe. In the spring of 2013, Maarja released her debut album “Soolo” that generated many glowing reviews as well as favourable comparisons to Czech avant-garde violinist Iva Bittová and a Twitter shout out from Duran Duran front man Simon Le Bon (!).
Event info here.
