mornin'!! this is the first time i've been able to listen LIVE in quite a while!! i, too, saw the Beatles movie, last night. "SPOILER ALERT" (if there is such thing as a spoiler for documentaries): i enjoyed it, but it is pretty mainstream-ish. not a lot new to be seen, there, but always enjoyable. there was one footage scene that was shocking, to me. my complaints will follow if anyone wants to hear 'em.

I saw the Jackson group at Central Park too. I think it was 1980, and I remember that it was a free show. Sometimes time is just an unavoidable saboteur. It sounds, though, like the L.A. show that Baby saw was just a garden variety case of assholes.

Giles Martin posits The Beatles were playing & singing essentially deaf - completely by muscle memory! Shea Stadium's screams are believed to have been louder than a jet engine @ close range - for the whole show. & that was their reality sonically in that whole period Live.

From the New Yorker review of Eight Days: Ringo, interviewed for the movie, remembers a period when the only way to decipher what point they had reached in a song, enthroned as he was behind his drum kit, was to observe the motion of John’s and Paul’s backsides. One presumes that George was already bending his mind toward the East, with the result that his ass remained transcendentally calm.
