Afternoon, Sheila and all!! Slogging through copyediting but less than 48 hours from vacation and likewise looking forward to being rocketed into the weekend!

But on a Saturday morning...with 3 hits of E I don't have to be a woman!!!
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm listener james from westwood:

And hell yes "Barracuda" helps that goal!!

Oooh. I sense a theme.

  3:17pm JakeGould:

Fats Noel likes to beat around the bush. Literally and figuratively.
  3:18pm Tommy Jack Haynes:

A lot of 70s bands lost their way in the 80s. Heart , Chicago, Rod Stewart and a few other bands or artist took the schmaltzy route in the 80s

Hello, Sheilab! This Koncz song sounds like Jefferson Airplane.
  3:50pm modchick65:

Rascals cover!
  3:53pm modchick65:

I almost put this Garnet Mimms song on my autumn 2016 mix, but it didn't fit stylistically (too upbeat). And too much like my old apartment.
  3:54pm JakeGould:

I love nothing more than a 3 day rainy weekend!
Avatar 3:54pm statoj:

Garnet Mimms! Sweet balm for my ears!

Avatar 3:55pm djsheilab:

Hello glorious gang! And welcome Boom Boom virgin @DonJuanTijuana. Was gonna do a rainy day set, but decided to keep it mostly upbeat., except for this devastating number by Ketty Lester.
  3:55pm modchick65:

Btw, Sheila... I'm having some major sequencing/flow issues with that mix, so I really appreciate how much work you must put into your show. It's hard enough trying to get sequencing right on a seasonal digital playlist... it must be super hard to do it weekly.
  3:55pm zzmz:

Hi SB, troll listener here but love your show. just saying.
  3:55pm Tommy Jack Haynes:

I think Garnet Mimms moved into my old apartment in the East Village

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Adrian in London:

I went to junior school with a kid called Ian Malone. He was, with crushing inevitability, nick-named 'Bugsy'.

Judee performs "The Kiss" live in 1973—could reduce you to tears: youtu.be...
  4:24pm chalmers:

@jerry H. Roy Clark! He even played Mozart on his guitar.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Carmichael:

Despite the fact that Bugsy was performed by kids, the soundtrack songs were all sung by adults. Archie Hahn, Williams, Sukey Smith and Julie McWirder. It must have been a young Paul singing that song, as it was definitely not Hahn.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm listener james from westwood:

Nothing like a Judee Sill track.
  4:26pm jerry h.:

@chalmers how could I forget that practical joker? Excellent!

Sheile B. You always play such super cool music...always. Hey, if you don't know the song You Just Gotta Know My Mind by Dana Gillespie (written by Donovan) check it out...it's right up your alley!
Avatar 5:07pm Cecile:

You playing Johnny Rivers's "Poor Side of Town?"
  5:10pm v-dawg:

Anyone going to the Tacocat show this Sunday?
Avatar 5:11pm djsheilab:

Avatar 5:11pm The Contessa:

I love this, too
Avatar 5:15pm Cecile:

Brenda also wrote "Get Here" which Oleta Adams covered.
  5:17pm ellliot:

So when and where is this record fair in Allentown? Sunday? Is it just 45s? Anyone have a URL for it. I am driving home that direction on Sunday.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 5:18pm ChrisB.:

@SheilaB: Are you a Donna Loren fan? Dr. Pepper girl and beach movie regular?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm dale:

@dale Coming up next week. Love that one! Thanks!
  5:19pm Ted:

@Sheila yaaaay!
  5:21pm Mandy:

hi Sheila! Your voice always makes me smile. I'm wondering if you've ever seen "Belladonna of Sadness", or heard it's soundtrack. it seems like something you'd like: a psychedelic animated film from early 1970s Japan with a sweeping sad girl score. https://youtu.be/9ZFWdrYX2fs

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm dale:

was trying to find who sang 'tomorrow' - it sounds like paul's voice and inflection but it sounds processed. maybe it was. the interwebs asks the same question with no answer.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Michael 98145:

( think you have a typo on the playlist, Sheila ... )
  5:28pm MONEYBAG$:

I needed this St.Etienne jam right now
Avatar 5:28pm djsheilab:

  5:29pm Paul D:

That whole album is good.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Rob Kopp:

Speaking of record fairs: Twice a year (apr + nov) there's a very big one in Utrecht (NL). If you Google "platenbeurs utrecht" in Google pictures, you will understand why I'm always thinking: where do I start?
Avatar 5:32pm Honeybear:

What a stunningly beautiful song.
  5:33pm el BO-bO:

Did I hear you say you are from Iran? How did you smuggle your records into the country? Did the Ayatollah like crooners and ye-ye girls?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Adrian in London:

I never think I like the Beach Boys but occasionally hear something I really love. That was one of them.
Avatar 5:34pm Honeybear:

@bobo she escaped Iran just at the end of the "Golden Years", according to legend.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Michael 98145:

This collection hasn't sold yet : www.ebay.com...
Avatar 5:35pm SueAdynamo:

My 5 yr old says he loves you too
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Carmichael:

@dale: I thought it sounded a little like Williams. I also noticed it was from 40 years ago, which may explain my lack of recognition.
  5:36pm fredrik:

Where do we write to you if not on the comments board? Thank you for making every Friday afternoon wonderful, Sheila B!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm northguineahills:

Walked away for a bit, was whistling the Beach Boys, and the Beach Boys was playing!
Avatar 5:36pm Honeybear:

@bobo so while the Mullahs weren't all that down with crooners and go-go girls... it just so happens that the music scene in Iran was quite vibrant in the 70s. Which she may not have been in tune with directly, but she does appear to have bottled up some of its vibe ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm dale:

maybe rex can part with a quarter million.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Carmichael:

Iran was much more Western in the 70s under the Shah. I spent some time there at the end of the decade. It's waaaay different now.
  5:38pm Paul D:

is Sophisticated Boom Boom named after the Dead Or Alive album?
