From Christopher Durang's play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, about watching Senor Wences on Sullivan show: "..and would paint a mouth on his fist, and would make it talk...(high voice) 'Hello' (low voice) 'Hello.' His act lasted about...seven hours. As a child, I thought this must be what eternity feels like."

He would enter the stage with his hand in his pocket.
After announcing Johnny, he would remove his already made-up hand from his pocket and quickly place the wig and body on it.
Johnny would plead "Please don't make me do that again"

Back a couple more decades again, among the references realized late, when in the credits closing Quick Draw McGraw cartoons, Baba Looey tossed a "S'alright," from a chest trailing the stagecoach, it was a Senor Wences thing.
