Scratchy vanity 45s, pilfered field recordings, muddy off-the-radio sounds, homemade congregational tapes and vintage commercial gospel throw-downs; a little preachin', a little salvation, a little audio tomfoolery.

Rev Izear says this about bobbing for apples:We can say with more certainty that apple bobbing goes back at least a few hundred years, that it does appear to have originated in the British Isles (Ireland and Scotland in particular), and that it originally had something to do with divination (fortune telling).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
coelacanth:

i would borrow the excellent magritte idea if i wouldn't have to buy a bowler, suit jacket and red tie.

Reverend Snotty Nose!
  Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Lonely Planet Boy:

is there a Rev. Snotty Nose Halloween costume?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
sinner:

There is but you gotta go down to Mendenhall, MS to get it.
  8:49pm
JakeGould:

Say “Reverend Snotty Nose!” three times in a mirror, the right Reverend himself will appear before you and tell you how to get your guts straight again.
  Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Lonely Planet Boy:

those spots are from MS?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
coelacanth:

when my sister's kids were going to a "hippie" school they had some sort of sterile version of apple bobbing at the halloween party.
  8:51pm
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Sterile? Like how? Separate boys and girls barrels?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
sinner:

izear: c. 2000 Jackson, MS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
coelacanth:

Jake - you mean because girls eat worms and boys don't? - no, they were pretty liberal about boys and girls being together. the boys were taught to be brave.
...i don't remember now, but there were no heads going under water.

love this program, found on Radio JEFF up in the Catskills. re: the Magritte with apple costume, my mate did that years ago, hung a paper handpainted green apple from a string hung off cheap plastic bowler. was fun.
