Permission to board, Commander Ryker?
Avatar 8:07pm
Bethany Ryker:

Well, P-90, I suppose if we're getting all "Next Generation" I have to request that you spell my last name differently - That would be Commander William Riker. Though we would bother be of Dutch Lineage....

Bethany Ryker:

But hop on!!

Rynac:

I have never before heard anything by Pogorelich. I'm taken by his contrast between tranquility and stress.

Avatar 8:18pm
Bethany Ryker:

Yay, y'all!

Can I admit I never knew Bowie recorded this until TODAY. Yeah. I'm behind the times, since it was recorded in 1977~~~

Ken From Hyde Park:

OK...without peeking, who can name the characters and the associated instruments?

P-90:

And an excellent performance of "The Aquarium" under the break
Avatar 8:19pm
Bethany Ryker:

Well, Ken - the narrator is giving it all away in the intro. Personal bias: THE WOLF

Gregor:

Like the Bowie version, but the Viv Stanshall version's even better.

Peter is the strings! Grandfather is the bassoon! the kettle drums is the hunter's gun!

Flint Mish:

What a wonderful show. I haven't heard Peter and the Wolf for years and I believe I still have the album from so long ago.

Listener Robert:

Years ago my friends Charlie & Nadine & I were watching the Super Bowl on TV, and some commercials came on featuring bears. I said, "OK for the bears, but what about the wolves?" And the next commercial came on playing "Peter and the Wolf".

The original vinyl release had GREEN VINYL with the typical RCA Red seal. I can't look it up now, but very curious what the original pressing is going for on eBay these days...someone want to poke around and see??
Avatar 8:30pm
Linda Lee:

40 dollars for the forest green vinyl.

@dale: What about “Foster Brooks’ Peter and the Wolf?”
Avatar 8:35pm
Linda Lee:

just yesterday i was reading an interview with Angie ~ quite the piece of work, she is. apparently an author of a memoir about their lives as a couple. she couldn't have done so while he lived. sort of a strange mental juxtaposition, hearing this now.
Avatar 8:35pm

I don't know how I feel about pronouncing it "lassoo" instead of "lasso."

We had a record of Peter and the Wolf when we were kids. I wonder (1) where it's at now and (b) who narrated it.

ranjit:

I guess I can forgive Bowie almost anything.
Avatar 8:41pm
Linda Lee:

apparently Bowie was so upset about the Stones song 'Angie' that he ran off to the south of France with his son to seduce Bianca Jagger!
why must these thoughts sully my listening experience?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
dale:

i think it's great - we should have heard this once the week of his passing instead of some of the songs we heard constantly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
dale:

he had a meneige with his son, linda?
Avatar 8:44pm
